유럽의 풍력발전기술 선도기업인 Gamesa社와 Areva社는 해상풍려발전기술 분야의 발전을 위한 조인트벤처(joint venture)를 구성할 것이라고 발표하였다. 이는 향후 유럽의 풍력발전기술 분야, 특히 해상풍력발전기술에 큰 영향을 미치게 될 것이다.

독점적인 협상에 들어간 Gamesa社는 이러한 움직임이 해상풍력발전기술 개발을 가속화시킬 것이며, 이들을 해상풍력발전기술 분야에서 글로벌 선도기업이 될 수 있게 해줄 것이라고 말하였다.

 

그들은 향후 10년 동안 재생에너지 발전기술 개발에 있어 가장 전도유망한 기술 중 하나라고 말하였다. 특히, 북유럽 연안 국가에서 더욱 더 그러할 것이다. 이곳에 설치된 기저부하량이 2020년 25GW 이상이 될 것이다.

이러한 조인트벤처는 세 개의 중요한 분야에 초점을 맞출 것을 예상하고 있다: 연구개발 분야에서의 혁신과 투자; 산업화 및 공급망 개발; 그리고 효율적인 육상해상풍력발전기술 관련 관행.

설치 준비가 되고 있는 Areva M5000

발표에 따르면, 두 개가 바로 인력과 해상풍력발전기술을 공동출자하는 것이다. 그리고 조인트벤처에 자산을 모으는 것이다. 예를 들어, Areva社의 Bremerhaven(터빈 조립)과 Stade(블레이드 제작) 공장이 바로 그것이다. 이들 공장은 모두 독일에 있으며 해상풍력발전기술과 상업계약 모두를 하고 있다.

Gamesa社는 기존의 2MW 이상 규모의 기술을 해상에 적용하는 데 기여하게 될 것이다. 이곳은 5MW용 플랫폼(platform)과 이곳의 Arinaga社 풍력터빈 프로토타입(prototype)에도 이 기술을 적용할 것이며, 해상과 관련된 공학 및 운영, 그리고 유지보수 역량에도 기여하게 된다.

Gamesa社의 회장인 Ignacio Martin은 “이러한 조인트벤처는 풍력발전기술 가치사슬 전반에 걸친 노하우(know-how)로 해상풍력발전기술 분야에 선도적이고 최첨단 기술의 창출을 위한 방안을 개발하게 될 것”이라고 말했다.

Gamesa社의 커뮤니케이션 담당자인 Ursula Guerra 이사는 다음처럼 이 상황을 설명하였다: 조인트벤처는 Areva社의 기존 5MW용 발전설비, 즉 M5000을 우선적으로 상업화시키고자 하는 의도를 가지고 있다.

 

하지만, 이는 수많은 새로운 발전설비들을 출시하고자 하는 계약 과정의 일환으로 이를 추가하였으며, 앞으로는 기존의 발전설비보다 더 큰 용량의 발전설비를 개발하고 이를 시장에 적용시키고자 한다.

하지만, 이번 여름까지 계약을 체결할 것으로 예상되지 않는 조인트벤처 계약과 함께 이번 개발을 위한 타임 프레임(time frame)은 아직은 확실하지 않다고 Guerra 이사는 말하였다.

 

 

 

 

 

European wind technology majors Gamesa and Areva have announced moves to create a joint venture in the offshore wind sector.

 

Entering into exclusive negotiations, Gamesa says the move will accelerate offshore wind development and allow the venture to become a leading global player in the offshore wind arena.

 

They state this is one of the most promising areas for the development of renewables over the next decade, particularly in the coastal countries of northern Europe, where the installed base should reach over 25 GW by 2020.

 

The joint venture is expected to focus on three key areas: innovation and investment in R&D; industrialization and supply chain development; and efficient onshore practices.

 

The companies’ claim that significant synergies should result, combining Areva’s offshore experience, for example at the Alpha Ventus research project off the coast of Germany, together with Gamesa’s technological capabilities in onshore and strong capacity for industrialization.

 

According to a statement, the two will pool personnel and offshore wind-related technologies and assets to the JV, for example Areva’s Bremerhaven (turbine assembly) and Stade (blade manufacturing) plants in Germany, as well as offshore wind technology and commercial contracts.

 

Gamesa will contribute existing multi-megawatt technologies applicable to offshore, the 5-MW platform and its Arinaga turbine prototype, as well as offshore related engineering, operation and maintenance capabilities.

 

In addition, the JV will enter into a preferred supplier agreement with Gamesa for some key components.

The definitive agreements concerning the creation of the JV will be signed within the next few months following final negotiations. 

 

Ignacio Martin, Chairman of Gamesa commented: “This joint venture will pave the way for the creation of a leading and cutting-edge company in the offshore segment with know-how across the end-to-end wind energy value chain.”

 

Ursula Guerra, Communications Director at Gamesa explained that the venture intends initially to market Areva’s existing 5-MW machine, the M5000, but over the course of the agreement they plan to launch a number of new machines: “We want to develop a new 5-MW machine and then in the longer term an 8-MW machine, only for offshore.”

 

However, with the joint venture agreement not expected to be signed off until the summer, timeframes for these developments are still uncertain, Guerra explains.
