[영국] 서번트렌트, 100만 파운드 규모 에트루리아 수도관 교체 시작

향후 4년 동안 스토크 전역의 노후 상하수도관 교체에 투자할 4천100만 파운드의 일부

영국의 상하수도 기업인 서번트렌트(Severn Trent)는 영국 스태퍼드셔주의 6개 도시가 결합해 만들어진 도시인 스토코 온 트렌트(Stoke on Trent)의 에트루리아(Etruria)에서 노후화된 수도관을 교체하기 위해 100만 파운드(약 16억 원) 이상을 투자하고 있다.

이 공사는 2km 이상의 오래된 수도관이 교체되어 이 지역에 더욱 신뢰할 수 있고 탄력적인 수도 인프라를 보장할 것이며, 서번트렌트가 향후 4년 동안 스토크(Stoke) 전역의 상하수도관을 교체하는 데 투자할 4천100만 파운드(약 644억 원)의 일부이다.

서번트렌트의 지역사회 커뮤니케이션 책임자인 레이첼 로우(Rachel Lowe)는 “우리 지역의 수도관이 노후화됨에 따라 누수나 폭발과 같은 것들에 더 취약해질 수 있으며, 이는 시민들에게 수돗물 공급에 영향을 미칠 수 있고 수리를 위해 불편하지만 필요한 도로 공사를 초래할 수 있다”고 말했다.

레이첼 로우는 이어 “우리는 이 지역에서 많은 폭발이 있었다는 것을 알고 있고, 그래서 우리는 오래된 수도관 중 일부를 교체하고 있다”라면서 “이것은 우리의 급수망이 가능한 최상의 상태에 있고 기후변화와 증가하는 인구와 같은 미래의 수요를 충족시킬 준비가 되었다는 것을 의미한다”고 덧붙였다.

그는 “이 작업을 완료하면 하루에 4만 리터(40㎥)의 물을 절약할 수 있다. 이는 목욕 500번이나 7만 파인트(약 39.8㎥ ; 1파인트는 0.568리터)와 같다”고 말했다.

교체할 수도관의 위치와 프로젝트를 수행하는 팀 및 다른 도로 사용자의 안전을 보장하기 위해, 공사 중에 일부 차선이 폐쇄되고 도로가 일방통행으로 이루어지게 된다.

레이첼 로우는 또한 “우리 팀은 가능한 한 안전하고 빠르게 이러한 작업을 완료할 것이며 엔지니어와 다른 도로 사용자 모두의 안전을 보장하기 위해 전체적으로 임시 교통관리를 시행할 것”이라면서 “도로공사가 좌절감을 줄 수 있다는 것을 알고 있지만, 물 인프라를 갱신함으로써 우리는 우리의 엔지니어들이 미래에 수리를 하기 위해 돌아올 필요가 없기를 희망한다”라고 말했다.

서번트렌트는 2023년 11월까지 완료될 것으로 예상되는 이러한 작업 중에 물 공급이 중단될 것으로 예상되는 모든 고객에게 직접 연락할 계획이다.

Severn Trent begins ￡1 million Etruria pipe upgrade project 

 

Severn Trent is investing more than ￡1 million to replace ageing water pipes in Etruria, Stoke on Trent. 

The works will see over 2km of older water pipes replaced, ensuring a more reliable and resilient water infrastructure for the area, and is part of the ￡41 million which Severn Trent will be investing in renewing water and sewage pipes across Stoke over the next four years. 

Rachel Lowe, Community Communications Officer, said: “As the pipes in our network age, they can become more prone to things like leaks and bursts, which can impact peoples’ supply and can result in inconvenient but necessary roadworks to make a repair. 

“We’re aware there have been a number of bursts in this area and so we’re replacing some of our older pipes. This will mean our network is in the best possible condition and is ready to meet future demands like climate change and a growing population. 

“By completing this work, we’ll also be saving 40,000 litres of water a day ? that’s the same as 500 baths, or 70,000 pints!”

Due to the location of the pipes to be replaced and to ensure the safety of the teams delivering the project and other road users, there will be some lane closures and roads made one-way to traffic during the works.   

Rachel added: “Our teams will be completing these works as safely and quickly as possible and to ensure the wellbeing of both our engineers and other road users, some temporary traffic management will be in place throughout.  

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating, however by renewing the water infrastructure we are hopeful that our engineers won’t need to return to make repairs in the future.”  

Severn Trent will directly contact any customer whose water supply is expected to be interrupted during these works, which are expected to be completed by November 2023.
