[LONG BEACH, Calif.] Earth Tech, a unit of Tyco Flow Control, today announced that the North of Scotland Water Authority (NoSWA) has selected Earth Tech to design, construct and commission a new Inverness 10 MGD (34Ml/d) water treatment plant and supply system. The $20 million (14 million pounds sterling) contract includes a new water treatment plant, service reservoir and treated water trunk main. The new plant will remove color and provide a physical barrier to cryptosporidium in a one-step process.
"This project illustrates Earth Tech's strong capabilities to meet the growing need for water treatment and management around the world," according to Diane C. Creel, President of Earth Tech. "The chosen solution demonstrates Earth Tech's ability to create innovative and cost effective engineering and process solutions."
Earth Tech, which was chosen over three other leading process contractors, worked in partnership with NoSWA to determine the best choice of process. Extensive pilot trials were conducted to establish that chemical dosing upstream of ultra filtration was the optimum sequence of treatment. The application that was chosen uses leading-edge technology and will be the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
"NoSWA has to comply with increasingly stringent legislation, and to meet conditions prevailing in this particular region of Scotland, Earth Tech is pleased to be able to assist them," said Kim Early, President of Earth Tech's Global Water Management.
