Ras Al Khaimah raps nine desalination stations after extensive testing
Nine water desalination sites in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, have been rapped for failing water quality tests, reports Khaleej Times.
Ras Al Khaimah Municipality inspected 160 desalination stations across the emirate during the past seven months, collecting 1,015 samples for lab testing. Nine were found either to be selling impure water or using unsafe bottles.
"Some of the stations were alerted about the same breaches before, but failed to amend their position," acting manager of the public health department Shaimaa Al Tunaiji told Khaleej Times. They may face fines or temporary or permanent closure.
To get their licenses renewed, desalination operators must comply with Ras Al Khaimah's Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, a preventative approach to food safety and allergenic, chemical, and biological hazards in production processes.
