ZENON to build world's largest ZeeWeed¢ç plant in Singapore

OAKVILLE, Ontario, November 25, 2002 -
The island of Singapore has started its conversion to membrane based water filtration.  ZENON Environmental Inc. (TSE:  ZEN and ZEN.A) will supply its ZeeWeed¢ç membranes to a new 72 million gallon per day (273,000 cubic metres per day) drinking water plant, which will be one of the world's largest membrane-based water treatment plants and will be built in Singapore.

Singapore's Public Utilities Board is in the midst of a major expansion of the nation's water resources, in an effort to become self-reliant for their water supplies.  As the beginning of this development, they will upgrade the Chestnut Avenue Waterworks to double the existing drinking water plant's capacity.  Construction of the new water treatment plant is expected to be complete by the end of 2003.

The new plant will be the largest ZeeWeed¢ç installation to date with an order value of approximately $10 million to ZENON.  The contract was secured by the company's licensee in Singapore, Hyflux, Ltd., a leader in integrated water management in the region.  Hyflux will supply the system equipment using ZENON's immersed membranes.

"ZENON's first water reclamation plant in Singapore positioned us strategically in this country and was responsible for paving the way for larger, future contracts, such as this," said Andrew Benedek, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ZENON.   "Our initial investment will prove worthwhile in the long term due to the great market potential in the region."
According to Mr. Benedek, there should be no difficulty in meeting this demand as ZENON's new manufacturing plant in Hungary will be on line by the end of this year.  This new facility will allow the company to double its current membrane production.
