아메리칸 워터(American Water Works Company, Inc.)가 미국 최대의 상수도 및 하·폐수 유틸리티 회사로 최근 미국의 경제전문지 주간 배런스 매거진(Barron's Magazine)이 선정한 100대 지속가능 기업 중 하나로 선정되었다.

아메리칸 워터(American Water)의 사장 겸 CEO인 수잔 스토리(Susan Story)는 "우리는 이 100대 기업의 목록에 다시 한번 참여하게 되어 매우 자랑스럽다”면서  "회사가 선을 행함으로써 잘하는 것은 우리의 확고한 신념이며, 점점 더 직원, 고객 및 투자자들은 자신을 조정하고 사회 개선에 적극적으로 동참하고 환경과 지역사회에 긍정적인 영향을 끼치고 돌보는 회사에 투자하겠다"고 강조했다.

이것은 아메리칸 워터(American Water)가 이 목록에 지명된 두 번째 해이다. 올해 뉴저지에 본사를 둔 아메리칸 워터는 지난해 36위에서 23위까지 올라섰다.

American Water Named One Of The 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies

American Water Works Company, Inc., the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced recently it was named as one of the 100 Most Sustainable Companies by Barron’s Magazine.

“We are extremely proud to have once again been included on this list of 100 most sustainable companies,” said Susan Story, president and CEO of American Water. “It is our firm belief that companies do well by doing good. More and more, employees, customers and investors seek to align themselves and invest with companies that are actively committed to the betterment of society and make a positive impact and care for the environment and the communities they serve.”

This is the second year in a row that the American Water was named to this list. This year, the company ranked highest for New Jersey-based companies, coming in at No. 23 up from No. 36 last year.

American Water’s dedication to sustainability and being an environmental leader in the water industry includes reducing its greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 31% through 2017 and reducing it 40% by 2025. The company has reduced annual water usage by 3.5 billion gallons through conservation and will invest more than $8 billion to improve aging infrastructure to reduce and eliminate water leaks.

American Water also recently announced Kevin Kirwan as its new Chief Environmental Officer to further its commitment to being a leader in environmental sustainability, caring for the planet, and leading the nation in outstanding water safety and quality.

Last year, the company was also recognized by The Philadelphia Inquirer as one of the top-ranked companies in the Philadelphia region on diversity, governance, & transparency.
