[UAE] 수키아, '제2회 글로벌 물 대상' 신청기한 연장

UAE(아랍에미리트) 물구호재단(Water Aid Foundation, 수키아)이 '제2회 모하메드 빈 라시드 알 막툼 글로벌 물 대상(Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award)' 참가신청 기한을 2019년 9월 1일로 연장했다. 이 상에 참여하는 신청자들은 총 100만 달러 상금을 얻기 위해 경쟁한다.

셰이크 모하메드 빈 라시드 알 막툼(Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum) UAE 부통령 겸 총리, 두바이 통치자는 식수 부족을 해결하기 위해 지속가능하고 혁신적인 태양광 솔루션을 고안하도록 연구센터, 개인 및 혁신가들을 독려하기 위해 이 상을 설립했다.

모하메드 빈 라시드 알 막툼 글로벌 이니셔티브(Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, MBRGI) 산하기관인 수키아(Suqia)가 주관하는 이 상은 혁신 프로젝트, 혁신 연구 및 개발, 혁신 개인 등 3개의 주요 카테고리로 구성된다.

사이드 모하메드 알 타이에르(Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer) 수키아 이사회 의장은 “이 세계적인 상은 혁신과 지속가능성을 향한 UAE의 노력과 전세계 물부족 문제 해결을 위한 지속가능한 솔루션을 찾으려는 노력을 입증한다"면서 "특히 올해는 셰이크 칼리파 빈 자예드 알 나히얀(Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan) UAE 대통령이 선언한 관용의 해(Year of Tolerance)에 개최되는 것이라 더욱 중요하다"고 강조했다.

수키아 이사회 의장은 이어 "관용의 해는 2018년 자예드의 해(Year of Zayed 2018)의 연장선으로 성별, 인종, 피부색, 종교와 관계없이 인간의 고통을 경감하기 위해 전세계 도움이 필요한 지역에 도움의 손길을 뻗었던 고 셰이크 자예드 빈 술탄 알 나히얀(Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan)이 추구한 가치를 구현한다"면서 "이 상은 물 부족을 해결하기 위해 태양에너지를 사용해 지속가능하고 혁신적인 솔루션을 찾으려는 우리의 노력을 반영한다”고 말했다.

혁신 프로젝트 카테고리는 정부기관, 준정부기관 및 비정부조직을 대상으로 하며 총 30만 달러가 수여되는 대규모프로젝트 상(Large Projects Award)과 총 24만 달러가 수여되는 소규모프로젝트 상(Small Projects Award) 등 두 개 부문으로 나뉜다. 혁신 연구 및 개발 카테고리는 독립적으로 운영되거나 정부 또는 준정부기관과 연계된 학술기관 및 연구센터 소속의 개인 및 팀을 대상으로 한다.

상은 국립기관 상(National Institutions Award) 및 국제기관 상(International Institutions Award) 등 두 부문으로 나뉘며 상금은 각각 20만 달러다. 혁신 개인상은 15세에서 35세 사이의 청년을 대상으로 하는 청년상(Youth Award)과 뛰어난 연구자상(Distinguished Researcher Award)으로 구성되며 상금은 각각 2만 달러와 4만 달러다.

Suqia Extends Deadline to Apply for 2nd Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award to 1 September 2019 
    
 
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) extended the deadline to enter the second Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award to 1 September 2019. Applicants participating in the award will compete to win prizes totalling USD 1 million.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the award to encourage research centres, individuals, and innovators to find sustainable and innovative solar powered solutions for the scarcity of potable water.

Suqia, under the umbrella of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), is supervising the award, which has three main categories: Innovative Projects, Innovative Research & Development, and Innovative Individual.

“This global award affirms the UAE's commitment to innovation and sustainability, and the search for sustainable solutions for the scarcity of potable water globally. This year’s award is particularly important during the Year of Tolerance, announced by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The Year of Tolerance is an extension to the Year of Zayed 2018, as it carries the values consolidated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who extended a helping hand to the needy worldwide to alleviate human suffering, regardless of gender, race, colour or religion.  The award reflects our efforts to find sustainable and innovative solutions using solar energy to address the scarcity of potable water,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia.

The Innovative Projects category targets government, semi-government, and non-government organisations has two awards: Large Projects Award with prizes totalling USD 300,000, and Small Projects Award with prizes totalling USD 240,000. The Innovative Research & Development category targets individuals and teams from academic institutions and research centres that are independent or annexed to governmental or semi-government organisations.

It has two awards: National Institutions Award and International Institutions Award, each worth USD 200,000. The Innovative Individual Award has two categories: Youth Award, which targets young adults between ages 15 and 35 with prize value of USD 20,000; and Distinguished Researcher Award with prize value of USD 40,000.
