[칠레] 담수 공급 시스템을 발전시키는 새로운 계약

칠레의 UQ의 지속가능한 광물연구소 센터(SMI-ICE-Chile, Sustainable Minerals Institute Centre of Excellence in Chile)와 트렌드 인더스트리얼(TRENDS  Industrial) 간의 협정은 칠레 아타카마(Atacama) 지역의 통합된 다중 사용자 담수화 공급 시스템에서의 협력을 위한 길을 열어준다.

칠레, 특히 아타카마 지역은 극심한 가뭄에 시달리고 있으며 특히 광산업에 의한 지속적인 산업발전은 지속가능한 물 공급에 달려 있다.

SMI-ICE-Chile의 데이비드 멀리건(David Mulligan) 전무이사는 "두 기관이 공유 인프라 대안을 가진 다중 사용자 용수 공급 시스템의 개발을 조사하고 있다"고 말했다.

그는 "SMI-ICE-Chile은 이번 협약에 따라 SMI의 광물산업 물센터(CWiMI, Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry)에 있는 연구원들의 기술과 전문지식을 활용하고 있으며, 지역 물 공급 계획을 위한 도구의 개발을 지원하기 위한 초기 프로젝트 기금은 SMI의 복합적인 오보체 프로그램에서 나왔다"고 말했다.

데이비드 멀리건(David Mulligan) 전무이사는 이어 "이 접근방식은 지속 가능한 광산업 발전을 가능하게 하고, 지역사회와 다른 산업들이 물의 주요 자원에 접근할 수 있는 메커니즘을 제공할 것"이라면서 "혁신적인 솔루션 포함을 통해 비용을 최적화하고 영향을 최소화하는 통합 다중 사용자 시스템의 기회가 있다. 광업계는 대응하고 그러한 시책의 결과를 채택하고 실행하려고 하고 있다"고 강조했다.

TRENDS 은 아타카마 지역의 태양열 담수화 프로젝트인 에너지아 와이 아구아스 델 파시코(Energia y Aguas del Pacifico, ENAPAC) 프로젝트를 추진하는 회사로, 산업용수 공급의 안정성을 보장하는 것을 목적으로 한다.

TRENDS  Industria의 CEO인 호드리고 실비아(Rodrigo Silva)는 "이러한 협력적 접근법이 효율성을 향상시킬 수 있다"라면서 "사회적 환경적, 경제적 관점에서 지속 가능한 프로젝트"라고 말했다.

호드리고 실비아(Rodrigo Silva) CEO는 이어 "이러한 방식으로 협력한 칠레의 다른 대규모 광산 프로젝트에서 보듯이 영토에 대한 영향을 줄이고 효율성을 높일 수 있는 잠재력을 가지고 있다"고 강조했다.

New Agreement Will Advance Desalination Supply System In Chile

An agreement between UQ’s Sustainable Minerals Institute Centre of Excellence in Chile (SMI-ICE-Chile) and TRENDS Industrial paves the way for collaboration on an integrated multi-user desalination supply system in Chile’s Atacama region.

Chile, and the Atacama Region in particular, is in a severe drought and continued industrial development, especially by the mining industry, will depend on a sustainable water supply.

SMI-ICE-Chile’s Executive Director Professor David Mulligan said both organisations had been investigating the development of multi-user water supply systems with shared infrastructure alternatives.

“SMI-ICE-Chile is drawing on the skills and expertise of researchers in SMI’s Centre for Water in the Minerals Industry (CWiMI) under this agreement, and initial project funding to support the development of tools for planning regional water supplies has come from SMI’s Complex Orebodies program,” he said.

“This approach will allow for the development of a sustainable mining industry, and provide a mechanism for communities and other industries access to the key resource of water.

“There is opportunity for integrated multi-user systems that optimise costs and minimise impacts through the inclusion of innovative solutions.

“The mining industry is responding and seeking to adopt and implement the outcomes of such initiatives."

TRENDS Industrial is the company behind the Energias y Aguas del Pacifico project (ENAPAC) a solar powered desalination project in the Atacama Region which aims to ensure the stability of the industrial water supply.

TRENDS Industrial’s CEO Rodrigo Silva said this collaborative approach could improve efficiencies.

“This is a sustainable project from a socio-environmental and economic perspective,” he said.

“It has the potential to reduce the impact on the territory and improve efficiencies, as we have seen in other large-scale mining projects in Chile which collaborated in this way.”
