ABB가 세계 최대 규모 홍수 방지 구조물의 운영체제를 현대화한다.

ABB는 네덜란드 인프라·수자원관리부 산하 수자원관리국(Rijkswaterstaat)과 북해(North Sea)로부터 홍수 위협을 막아주는 세계 최대 규모 홍수 방지 구조물인 Oosterscheldekering 장벽의 운영체제를 업그레이드하는 계약을 체결했다고 지난 1월 12일 밝혔다.

네덜란드 국토의 26%가 해수면 아래에 위치해 있는 점을 감안할 때, Oosterscheldekering은 국가를 안전하게 유지하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 이는 라인(Rhine)–뫼즈(Meuse)–스켈트(Scheldt)강 삼각주 주변의 넓은 지역을 바다로부터 보호하기 위한 네덜란드 남서부의 대표 건설 프로젝트인 ‘Dutch Delta Works’의 상징물이기도 하다.

9km 길이의 Oosterscheldekering은 13개의 Delta Works 댐 및 폭풍 해일 방벽 중 가장 큰 규모다. 1986년부터 젤란트주(Zeeland)와 자위트 홀란드주(South Holland) 지역을 만조(high-water)로부터 보호해 왔다.

ABB는 지난 35년 동안 Oosterscheldekering 장벽을 관리하는 데 ‘AbilityTM System 800xA’ 기술을 적용해 왔다.

정상 조건에서는 장벽이 열려 있다가, 수위가 평시 암스테르담 수위보다 3m 이상 올라갈 것으로 예상되면 장벽이 미리 내려온다.

현재 260개의 ‘ABB AC 800M’ 컨트롤러를 사용하면 너비가 각각 42미터인 강철 도어 62개를 버튼 하나로 열고 닫을 수 있다.

ABB는 이번 업그레이드 계약으로 단일 운영체제의 64,000 I/O가 탑재된 System 800xA의 기능을 다시 한번 입증하고, 장벽이 최신 보안 규정을 준수하는지 확인할 것이다.

Critical infrastructure prevents 60 percent of the Netherlands from potential flooding

Rijkswaterstaat, part of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, has awarded ABB a contract to upgrade the Oosterscheldekering barrier operating system, the icon of the Dutch Delta Works, the world’s largest flood protection structure which protects the country against flooding from the North Sea. With 26 percent of The Netherlands below the sea level, Oosterscheldekering plays a key role in keeping the country safe.

Delta Works consists of two locks, six dams and five storm-surge barriers. At 9km long, the Oosterscheldekering, is the largest of the 13 Delta Works dams and storm surge barriers, and it has protected the Zeeland and South Holland hinterland against high-water since 1986.

ABB’s  AbilityTM System 800xA has controlled the Oosterscheldekering barrier for the last 35 years. Under normal conditions, the barrier remains open, when water levels of more than 3 meters above the Normal Amsterdam Level are fore­casted, thanks to ABB technology, the barrier comes down in advance. At present, 260 ABB AC 800M controllers enable 62 steel doors, each 42 meters wide, to open and close at the push of a button. This ambitious project demonstrates the capabilities of System 800xA, with 64,000 I/O under one single operating system, and will also ensure the barrier complies with the latest security regulations.

ABB was awarded the contract in 2021. This included a pre-study and proof-of-concept to test the proposed set up. The contract, which includes a 15-year service and Care agreement, will be phased in over the next three years.

ABB has also supplied the control systems for several other storm barriers in the Netherlands, including Maeslantkering, Ramspolkering and the Haringvlietdam.
