Evoqua¡¯s BioMag system selected by five municipalities for wastewater clarification

Evoqua Water Technologies¡¯ Municipal Products and Services division has been selected by five U.S. municipalities to supply its industry-leading BioMag¢ç ballasted biological treatment system to their wastewater treatment plants to increase treatment capacity and help the municipalities meet stringent nutrient removal limits. The value of the combined orders is more than $20 million.

The BioMag¢ç System uses magnetite - fine particles of iron ore - that penetrates a biological floc to make it heavier and accelerate the clarification process. The System delivers the world¡¯s fastest and most reliable floc settling - allowing capacity expansion and performance improvement with minimal plant modifications at the lowest cost possible.

Contracts awarded to Evoqua, include:
¡¤Front Royal, Va. - The upgrade and expansion of the Front Royal, Va., wastewater treatment facility includes three Evoqua products - the BioMag¢ç System, Jet Tech¡¯s Vari-cant¢ç Jet Aeration System, and Envirex¢ç brand primary and secondary clarifiers. The plant upgrade will increase the facility¡¯s capacity by 45 percent and meet enhanced nutrient removal (ENR) limits for nitrogen and phosphorus without the need for tertiary treatment.

¡¤East Norriton, Pa. - The East Norriton, Pa., wastewater treatment facility outside Philadelphia is being expanded with a new BioMag System and the Vari-cant Jet Aeration System. Evoqua¡¯s solution will increase the capacity of the existing bioreactors and secondary clarifiers by nearly 70 percent. Additionally, Evoqua¡¯s solution enables the facility to cost-effectively meet future nitrogen limits with existing tankage.

¡¤Cascade, Md. - The Winebrenner Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cascade, Md., is the second facility in Washington County to be upgraded with the BioMag System to meet the state¡¯s new nutrient removal standards. The county¡¯s Smithsburg Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has been in operation since 2014, was the first to use the BioMag System.

¡¤Taneytown, Md. - Taneytown, Md., is also upgrading its wastewater treatment facility, which features two sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), with the BioMag System to meet the state¡¯s new nutrient removal standards while using existing tankage.

¡¤Berkeley, WV - Four West Virginia SBR facilities in the Berkeley County Public Service Sewer District are being upgraded with the BioMag System. The projects are part of a plan to meet ENR limits for nitrogen and phosphorous in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed area without tertiary filtration.
