California Water Service(Cal Water)사는 California Water Service Group의 가장 큰 자회사로, 어류와 야생동물에게 유해할 가능성이 있는 염소처리된 물의 범람을 방지함으로써 환경 보호에 도움이 되는 장치가 회사에서 첫 번째 특허를 받았다.

 

이번 기술의 발명전에는 저장탱크 내 염소처리된 물을 개울·강 등에 범람이 가능했으며, 탱크의 전자차단 설비는 실패해 왔다. 시장 내 안전한 장치의 지원이 불가능하면서 염소처리된 물의 범람 시 지역 환경에 부정적인 영향을 끼친 바 있다.

 

 

 

California Water Service (Cal Water), the largest subsidiary of California Water Service Group, has received approval the company's first patent (US #9272928), for a device that helps protect the environment by preventing overflows of chlorinated water that is potentially harmful to fish and wildlife.

 

Before a "tank overflow dechlorinating assembly and method" technology was created, chlorinated water from storage tanks could overflow into creeks, rivers, and streams if the tank's electronic shutoff mechanism ever failed. With no available backup safety device on the market, the chlorinated water overflows could negatively impact the local environment. Chlorine is used in water as a disinfectant to make it safe for human consumption but can also impact fish and wildlife.

 

The invention of the assembly provides a second layer of security and a tailor-made solution for water storage tanks, as it attaches directly to the overflow pipe and delivers dechlorination tablets, held inside the unit, to dechlorinate any overflowing water. After the water has been through the dechlorination process, it greatly reduces the risk to the local environment.

With this patent, Cal Water can help other water companies and government agencies prevent chlorinated overflow at their tank sites. According to Kropelnicki, any revenue or royalties received from the device would also benefit Cal Water customers in future lower rates.
