Fluence starts production of first MABR modules from Chinese facility


Water and wastewater treatment company Fluence has completed the batch of Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) modules from its newly built production facility in China.


The facility located in Changzhou, in the Chinese Province of Jiangsu has a spiral production line, which was developed and tested in Israel with all the necessary machinery and equipment shipped and installed at the new facility.

 

Fluence says that the plant is now fully operational and ready to mass produce its MABR modules. The facility will also be responsible for the assembly of the MABR modules in containerized forms to deliver Containerized Smart Packaged MABR (CMABR) units.

 

The company claims that these CMABR units can be installed and commissioned at plants, much faster, resulting in faster revenue recognition.

 

It expects to supply these Smart Packagd MABR units to meet the growing demand for rural wastewater treatment demand in China and other markets across the world.

 

The company also said that it will increase its production capacity in the coming months to meet the growing market demand in China. Presently, the planned capacity of the first production line is 7,500 MABR modules per year, which is approximately $75m (A$100m) in potential annual sales.

 

Fluence CEO Henry Charrabe said: ¡°Successfully producing the first MABR module in our Changzhou factory marks another key milestone for us.  As anticipated, we remain on track to supply cost-optimized MABR & CMABR products for future demand both to the China market and globally.

 

¡°We believe the ability to meet demand through local production gives Fluence a significant competitive edge over our peers, because it keeps our costs down and allows us to fulfill orders rapidly.  We look forward to ramping our production to further meet growing market demand.¡±

 

In mid-September, Fluence signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an African nation to design and build a water treatment plant, capable of processing 150,000 cubic meters of water per day to local communities there.

 

The company stated that it is a confidential MOU and the construction agreement will be negotiated and signed in the second quarter of 2018.
