인도의 재생 에너지 회사인 리뉴(ReNew)는 10월 10일(현지시각) 미국 MIT 기술분석 잡지인 MIT 테크놀로지 리뷰의 15대 기후기술 기업으로 선정됐다고 발표했다. 이 15대 기업은 온실가스 배출을 줄이고 지구 온난화의 위협에 대처할 수 있는 가장 큰 잠재력을 지닌 글로벌 리더와 혁신적인 스타트업 회사를 조명한다. 리뉴는 이 목록에 포함된 유일한 두 개의 재생 에너지 회사 중 하나다.

리뉴는 인도의 재생 에너지 용량을 확장하고 에너지 저장 인프라를 구축해 녹색 수소 공간에 진입함으로써 인도의 에너지 전환에 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있다. 리뉴의 풍력 및 태양광 프로젝트(Wind and Solar Projects)는 인도가 탈탄소화 목표에 더 가까이 다가갈 수 있도록 지원하며, 이는 2023년 8월 기준 172기가와트에 달했던 국가 재생 에너지 설치 용량의 약 5%를 차지한다.

리뉴는 기술 역량을 사용해 인도의 건조한 지역에서 물을 절약하고 태양 전지판을 청소하기 위해 물 대신 로봇을 배치한다. 또한, 디지털 랩과 전기 공급을 통해 인도의 가장 외딴 지역에 있는 지역 주민을 교육함으로써 화석 연료에서 재생 가능 에너지로 전환한다. 프로젝트 수리야(Surya)에 따라 리뉴는 구자라트(Gujarat)의 란 쿠츠(Rann of Kutch) 습지에서 수백 명의 여성 염전 근로자를 교육해 이들이 태양열 기술자로 성장하고 더 나은 생활 수준을 갖출 수 있도록 지원한다.

ReNew recognised in Top 15 Climate Tech Companies to Watch

 

Gurugram, October 10, 2023: India’s largest renewables company, ReNew has been recognised in MIT Technology Review’s Top 15 Climate Tech Companies to Watch. The list spotlights global leaders and innovative startups that have the greatest potential to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and address the threats of global warming. ReNew is one of the only two renewable energy companies globally to be included in this prestigious list.

ReNew is playing a critical role in India’s energy transition by scaling up the nation’s renewable energy capacity, building energy storage infrastructure, and entering the green hydrogen space. ReNew’s wind and solar projects are helping India get closer to its decarbonization targets, accounting for about 5% of the country’s installed capacity of renewables, which stood at 172 gigawatts as of August 2023.
