발전· 담수화· 녹색수소 및 녹색 암모니아 프로젝트 등에 협력하기로 합의

세계에서 가장 큰 민간 담수화 회사이자 에너지 전환의 선수두자인 ACWA 파워(ACWA Power)는 리야드에서 열린 미래 투자 이니셔티브(FII7)와 별도로 총 7억4천600만 달러 규모의 여러 계약을 체결했다.

ACWA 파워는 글로벌 에너지 및 인프라 부문의 주요 기관 투자자인 EIG와 5억 달러 규모의 계약 조건을 체결해 발전, 담수화, 녹색 수소 및 녹색 암모니아 프로젝트 등에 협력하기로 합의했으며, 구체적으로 걸프만 국가와 우즈베키스탄 프로젝트에 중점을 두고 투자할 예정이다.

ACWA 파워는 또한 유럽부흥개발은행(EBRD) 및 OPEC 국제개발기금(OPEC 기금)과 함께 아제르바이잔에서 240MW 규모의 풍력 발전 프로젝트 개발을 위해 총 프로젝트 자금 조달 금액 2억4천600만 달러에 달하는 자금 조달 계약을 체결했다. 두 계약은 모두 선행 조건의 충족을 전제로 한다.

이 프로젝트는 아제르바이잔 최초의 외국인 투자 기반 독립형 풍력 발전 프로젝트로, 총 투자 비용이 3억4천700만 달러에 달하는 민관 파트너십(PPP) 구조다. 국영 전력 회사인 아제레네르지(Azerenerji)는 이 프로젝트의 유일한 인수자다. 이 프로젝트가 완공되면 약 30만 가구에 전력을 공급하고 2억2천만 입방미터의 천연 가스를 절약하며 연간 40만 톤 이상의 탄소 배출량을 줄일 것으로 예상된다.

ACWA 파워는 이전에 EBRD 및 OPEC 기금과 협력해 중앙 아시아, 중동 및 아프리카 전역의 여러 프로젝트에 자금을 조달한 바 있다. 2022년 FII에서 ACWA 파워와 EBRD는 우즈베키스탄, 아제르바이잔 및 이집트의 지속가능한 인프라 프로젝트에 자금을 지원하기 위한 MoU를 체결했다.

에너지 전환을 주도하고 활성화하려는 ACWA 파워의 노력으로 최근 몇 년 동안 여러 청정 에너지 프로젝트에서 아제르바이잔과 협력했다. 이 240MW 발전소 외에도 ACWA 파워는 아제르바이잔 에너지부와 협력하여 1.5GW의 해상 풍력, 1GW의 육상 풍력을 개발하고 배터리 에너지 저장 시스템(BESS)을 개발했다.

ACWA 파워는 또한 '아제르바이잔 공화국 국영석유회사(SOCAR)'와 협력해 재생 에너지 및 녹색 수소 분야의 협력 및 탐사를 모색하고 있다.

ACWA POWER SIGNS AGREEMENTS WORTH US$746 MILLION AT FII7 IN RIYADH

 

ACWA Power, the world’s largest private water desalination company, leader in energy transition and first mover into green hydrogen, has signed several agreements that are in aggregate worth US$746 million on the sidelines of the Future Investment Initiative (FII7) in Riyadh.

In a US$500 million Heads of Terms agreement with EIG, a leading institutional investor in the global energy and infrastructure sectors, ACWA Power and EIG have agreed to cooperate in power generation, water desalination, green hydrogen, and green ammonia projects, with a specific focus on investing in projects in Gulf countries and Uzbekistan. 

ACWA Power has also signed the funding agreements at an aggregate project financing amount of US$246 millionwith the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (The OPEC Fund) for the development of a 240MW wind power project in Azerbaijan. Both agreements are subject to the completion of the conditions precedent.

The project is the first foreign investment-based independent wind power project in the Republic of Azerbaijan, structured as a public-private partnership (PPP) at a total investment cost of US$347 million. The national electrical power company Azerenerji is the sole offtaker for the project, which, once completed, is expected to power nearly 300,000 households, save 220 million cubic metres of natural gas and reduce carbon emissions by more than 400,000 tonnes annually. 

Commenting on the announcement, Marco Arcelli added: “ACWA Power is enthusiastic about playing a pivotal role in helping Azerbaijan achieve its goal of meeting 30% of its energy needs through renewable sources by 2030. We are deeply grateful to our financing partners, the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development and the OPEC Fund for International Development, for their unwavering support in making this vision a reality.”

Nandita Parshad, Managing Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Group, EBRD, added:“We are proud to finance this landmark project for the energy transition in Azerbaijan. Last year at this same venue we signed an MOU with our long standing partner, ACWA Power, committing to deliver renewable energy, green hydrogen, and green desalination projects in our regions.  I am so pleased that with this signing we have achieved already nearly 1.5 GW of that promise to scale up renewable energy in the EBRD region from megawatts to gigawatts.  We are grateful to ACWA Power and the OPEC Fund for the shared commitment to climate action.”

ACWA Power has previously worked with EBRD and The OPEC Fund on the financing of multiple projects across Central Asia, Middle East and Africa. During the 2022 edition of FII, ACWA Power and EBRD signed an MoU to finance sustainable infrastructure projects in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Egypt.

ACWA Power’s commitment to lead and enable energy transition has seen it collaborate with Azerbaijan on several clean energy projects in recent years. Apart from this 240MW plant, ACWA Power has partnered with the Azerbaijan Ministry of Energy to develop 1.5 GW of offshore wind and 1 GW of onshore wind, as well as the development of a battery energy storage system (BESS).

ACWA Power is also working with the “State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic” (SOCAR) to explore collaboration and exploration in the fields of renewable energy and green hydrogen.
