GE to install water recycling technology at Texas power plants
General Electric (GE) will install its zero liquid discharge (ZLD) wastewater treatment technology at two new 758MW natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle power plants in Texas, US.
The GE technology will help the power plants in Sherman and Temple to reduce incoming water needs by recycling and reusing over 98% of its own cooling tower wastewater.
Following the commissioning, Temple Power Plant will use treated water from a nearby wastewater treatment plant while Sherman Power Plant will use water from Lake Texoma.
GE's ZLD systems are capable of treating 450 gallons of water per minute for each power plant, over 98% of which can then be reused in the process.
Panda Power Funds owns the two power generating stations in Bell County and Grayson County. Bechtel will act as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the plants.
Together, the two power plants can generate enough electricity to power about 1.5 million homes in the Texas region.
