캘리포니아 아메리칸 워터(CAW)가 몬터레이 페닌슐라 지역의 고객들이 그들의 일일 상수 사용을 모니터하고, 누수일지도 모를 비일반적으로 높은 물 사용을 확인할 수 있도록 하는 새 기술을 테스트할 계획이라고 발표했다.

CAW는 물과 펌프에 사용되는 전력 모두를 보존할 뿐만 아니라 고객들이 누수로 인한 높은 요금을 방지하도록 돕고자 이 시범 테스트를 시작했다. 나아가 이 프로젝트의 목표는 고객에게 가장 유용한 특성을 평가하고, 유동성 및 운영비를 평가하기 위한 충분한 정보를 얻는 것이다.

CAW 대표인 Rob MacLean은 “화장실이나 관개에서의 누수로 인한 높은 수도요금 때문에 충격을 받고 싶은 사람은 아무도 없다”고 강조했다. 그는 “누수가 발견될 때까지 수천 갤런의 물이 버려지고, 물을 끌어올리는 데 필요한 에너지도 낭비된다. 따라서 고객에게 그들의 일일 물 사용에 대한 세부적인 그림을 제공함으로써 물 절약 기회를 제공할 수 있기를 바란다”고 덧붙였다. 이 시범 테스트는 이번 달 시작되어 약 일 년 동안 운영될 예정이다.

 

 

 

California American Water (CAW) -- a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), the nation's largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company -- has announced that it will be testing new technology that will enable participating Monterey Peninsula customers to monitor their daily water usage and identify unusually high water use that may indicate a leak.

 

CAW launched the pilot in an effort to conserve both water and the power used to pump it as well as help customers avoid high bills due to leaks. Further, the objective of the project is to garner enough information to evaluate feasibility and cost of operation, as well as to evaluate which features customers find most useful.
 
"Nobody likes the shock of a high water bill due to a toilet or irrigation leak that they don't know about until the bill arrives," said Rob MacLean, CAW president. "And by the time the leak is discovered, thousands of gallons of water can be wasted as well as all the energy required to pump that water. By providing customers a detailed picture of their daily water usage, we hope to reveal opportunities for water savings."

 

The pilot will begin this month and will run for approximately one year. CAW is currently recruiting up to 200 business and residential customers from two neighborhoods to voluntarily participate in the project. However, others will be selected from a number of areas on the peninsula to ensure that there is a mix of residential and commercial customers testing the technology.
