[미국] 트리넥스, 납 수도관 인벤토리 파악 위한 혁신적인 예측 모델인 LeadCAST Predict 출시

물 분야 소프트웨어 기술 회사인 트리넥스(Trinnex)는 미국의 납 및 구리 규정 개정(Lead & Copper Rule Revisions, LCRR)을 준수하기 위해 물 유틸리티의 자원 최적화 능력을 향상시키는 새로운 예측 모델링 도구인 leadCAST Predict™를 출시했다고 밝혔다. 이 도구는 지역 수도 시스템에서 납 검출을 줄이기 위해 알려지지 않은 수도관 재료를 예측하고 분류하도록 설계됐다.

작동 방식

leadCAST Predict는 트리넥스의 대규모 엔드투엔드 LCRR 준수 솔루션인 leadCAST™의 일부이다. 데이터 과학자, 기계 학습(ML) 엔지니어, 고객 및 물 분야 전문가가 1천 시간 이상의 개발 및 테스트를 거쳐 만든 ML 모델은 상수도의 기존 인벤토리 데이터와 완벽하게 통합돼 납 수도관이 없는 수도 시스템에 대한 최적화 모델을 포함해 수도관의 재료를 예측할 수 있다.

leadCAST Predict는 두 가지 유형의 물 유틸리티를 지원한다.

-납 수도관을 파악해야 하는데 우선순위를 둬야 하는 납 수도관 보유 고객

-허용 가능한 재료의 존재를 증명해야 하는 납 수도관이 없는 고객

ML 모델은 건설 및 배관 기록, 검사 및 현장 검증과 같은 추가 데이터 수집 방법에서 얻은 새로운 데이터로 지속적으로 학습되므로 성능이 향상된다.

leadCAST Predict 사용자는 대화형 대시보드 및 지도 보기를 통해 결과를 확인할 수 있으며, ML 모델 구축, 배치 및 테스트 방법에 대한 개요와 함께 추적하기 쉬운 보고서를 제공 받는다.

저렴한 비용

470만 달러는 예측 모델링 없이 다른 유사한 프로그램 비용을 기준으로 최소 5천 대의 수도관을 현장에서 검증하는 데 드는 비용이다. 모든 수도 시설이 모든 수도관을 신속하게 확인할 수 있는 재정 및 인력 자원을 보유하고 있는 것은 아니다. 즉, 인벤토리를 완성하는데 수년이 걸릴 수 있다는 것이다. 

케이티 디히어(Katie Deheer) 선임 데이터 과학자는 “LeadCAST Predict는 납 수도관이 없는 지역사회에 대한 분석을 수행할 수 있다는 점에서 시장의 기존 툴과 다르다. 고객은 우선순위를 정하는데 도움을 받지 않고 알려지지 않은 자료로 모든 수도관을 확인해야 하는 부담을 가질 필요가 없다. 경우에 따라 유틸리티에는 ML 모델을 왜곡할 수 있는 편향된 기존 데이터 집합이 있을 수 있다. 따라서 leadCAST Predict는 기존 현장 검증이 전체 물시스템을 진정으로 대표하는지 또는 추가 데이터가 필요한지 평가하는 프로세스가 포함돼 있다. 이 프로세스를 통해 보다 안정적인 예측 모델링을 제공할 수 있다.

Trinnex Launches leadCAST Predict, a Revolutionary Predictive Model for Tackling Lead and Service Line Inventory Unknowns

Trinnex, a water software technology company, has launched leadCAST Predict™, a new predictive modeling tool that improves water utilities' ability to optimize their resources to achieve Lead & Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) compliance. The tool is designed to predict and classify unknown service line materials to reduce the presence of lead in community water systems.

How it works

leadCAST Predict is part of Trinnex's larger end-to-end LCRR compliance solution called leadCAST™. After over a thousand development and testing hours and collaboration between data scientists, machine learning (ML) engineers, clients, and water domain experts, the ML models were built to seamlessly integrate with a water utility's existing inventory data to help generate predictions of service line material, including an optimization model for water systems that may not have lead service lines.

leadCAST Predict supports two types of water utilities:

Those with lead service lines that need to prioritize getting the lead out

Those with no lead service lines that need to prove the existence of acceptable materials

ML model performance improves as it continuously gets trained with new data obtained from additional data acquisition methods such as construction and plumbing records, inspections, and field verifications. leadCAST Predict users get their results in an interactive dashboard and map views, along with an easy-to-follow report with an overview of how the ML models were built, deployed, and tested.

Preventing an expensive gamble

$4.7 million – that’s how much it would cost to field verify at least 5,000 service lines without predictive modeling, based on other similar program costs. Not all water utilities have the financial and staffing resources to verify every single service line quickly, meaning it could take years to finalize an inventory. Our communities deserve better than that. 

Katie Deheer, one of the senior data scientists behind the tool explains:

“LeadCAST Predict is different from existing tools in the market in that you can perform the analysis on communities with no lead. Our clients don’t have to bear the burden of verifying every single service line with unknown material without some help with prioritization.”

And in some cases, utilities might have a biased set of existing data that can skew the ML model. As such, leadCAST Predict includes a process to evaluate whether existing field verifications are truly representative of an entire water system or if additional data is needed. This process helps deliver more reliable predictive modeling.
