[영국] 스코티시 워터, 던펌라인 처리장에 태양광 발전 설치

 

 

던펌라인(Dunfermline) 하·폐수처리장은 오는 2040년까지 순배출량 '제로(0)'에 도달하겠다는 스코틀랜드 워터사의 공약을 활성화하기 위해 녹색 에너지로 전환했다.

던펌라인(Dunfermline) 폐수처리장은 가장 최신의 스코티시 워터(scottish water) 부지로서 태양광 발전(PV) 패널이 설치되어 있다.

스코티시 워터(scottish water)의 자회사인 스코티시 워터 호라이즌(Scottish Water Horizons)은 784 PV 패널을 설치하는 데 30만 파운드를 투자했는데, 이 작업은 던퍼라인(Dunfermline), 인버키팅(Inverkeithing), 달게티 베이(Dalgety Bay), 크로스게이트(Crossgates), 로지스(Rosyth), 킹시트(Kingsea)에 약 8만1천명의 고객들을 위한 것이다.

 

 

 

반도체 준전도성 재료를 사용하여 빛을 전기로 변환하여 작동하는 탄소 저감기술은 시설 운영에 필요한 전기의 거의 10%를 상쇄할 것이다.

새로운 231kW 태양 PV 시스템은 0.2GWH를 생성하게된다. 연간 기준으로 에너지 GWHr - 55개의 가정에 1년 동안 전력을 공급하는 것과 같다.

재생에너지 전문기업 FES Support Services가 스코티시 워터 호라이즌(Scottish Water Horizons)을 대신해 이 프로젝트를 제공했다.

태양광 패널들은 이제 제자리에 놓여져 북쪽 해안의 퀸스퍼리 크로싱(Queensferry Cross) 바로 아래에 있는 세인트 마가렛만(St Margaret 's Bay)에 있는 이전에 사용하지 않은 쓰레기 매립지 구역에서 작동하고 있다.

이 작업은 'Covid-19' 전염병에 대한 폐쇄 조건이 시작되기 전인 3월 중순 이전에 완료되었다.

스코티시 워터 호라이즌(Scottish Water Horizons)의 에디 존스톤(Eddie Johnstone) 선임 프로젝트 매니저는 "이것은 성장을 장려하고 재생 가능한 기술에 투자하기 위해 우리가 제공한 최신 태양광 발전 계획이다"라고 말했다.

에디 존스톤(Eddie Johnstone)은 또 "이러한 탄소를 줄이는 태양열 계획은 기후변화에 대처하고 전기를 전혀 사용하지 않는 스코틀랜드 워터사의 추진력을 보여준다"라고 덧붙였다.

그는 이어  "고객에게 필수적인 물과 폐수 서비스를 제공하는 데 필요한 에너지는 스코티시 워터를 국내 최대 단일 전력 사용자로 만들고 있으며 우리는 탄소 발자국을 줄이기 위해 녹색 에너지 계획을 개발하고 가속화할 대안을 찾는데 전념하고 있다"고 강조했다.

스코티시 워터(scottish water)의 폐수 운영 매니저 루이스 디아스(Lewis Deas)는 "이 폐수 현장이 이전보다 환경에 미치는 영향이 적은 방식으로 운영되고 있으며, 작업 시 운영비용도 절감할 수 있는 기술을 사용한다는 소식을 들은 고객들은 기뻐해야 한다"고 덧붙였다.

현재까지 8.2MW의 PV (Powervoltaic) 전력이 연간 6.5GWh의 재생에너지를 생산하는 43개 이상의 SW 현장에 MW의 태양광 발전이 설치되었다.

2019년에 스코티시 워터(scottish water)는 회사가 생산하고 촉진하는 재생 에너지의 양이 현재 전력 소비량의 두 배 이상이라고 발표했을 때 주요한 에너지 이정표를 달성했다.

현재 S스코티시 워터(scottish water)의 수처리 및 하·폐수처리장 중 73개는 현재 전력 요구량에서 자급자족하거나 부분적으로 충분하다.

이 프로젝트들은 스코틀랜드 정부의 야심찬 스코틀랜드 물 목표 달성에 기여하는데, 스코틀랜드 정부는 이 유틸리티가 2030년까지 사용하는 에너지의 3배를 발생시키거나 보유할 것이라고 밝혔다.

Dunfermline Works Go Green

 

 

Dunfermline Waste Water Treatment Works has turned to green energy to boost Scottish Water’s pledge to reach net zero emissions by 2040.

It is the latest Scottish Water site to have solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels installed.

Scottish Water Horizons, our commercial subsidiary, invested ￡300,000 installing 784 PV panels at the work which serves around 81,000 customers in Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay, Crossgates, Rosyth and Kingseat.

The carbon-reducing technology ? which works by converting light into electricity using semi conducting materials - will offset almost ten per cent of the electricity required to operate the facility.

The new 231 kW solar PV system will generate 0.2GWHr of energy on an annual basis - equivalent to powering 55 homes for a year.

Renewable energy experts FES Support Services delivered the project on behalf of Scottish Water Horizons.

The panels are now in place and operating on an area of previously unused waste ground at the site which is in St Margaret’s Bay, which is just below the Queensferry Crossing on the north shore.

The work was completed before the middle of March before lockdown conditions over the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Eddie Johnstone, Senior Project Manager at Scottish Water Horizons, said: “This is the latest solar power scheme which we have delivered to encourage growth and invest in renewable technologies.

“These carbon-reducing solar schemes demonstrate Scottish Water’s drive to tackle climate change and become a zero carbon user of electricity.

“The energy needed to provide customers with essential water and waste water services makes Scottish Water the largest single user of electricity in the country and we are fully committed to finding alternative ways to develop and accelerate green energy schemes to reduce our carbon footprint.

Lewis Deas, Scottish Water’s Waste Water Operations Manager, added: “Customers in the Dunfermline area should be pleased to hear this waste water site is operating in a way which now has a lower impact on the environment than ever before and using technology which will help drive down operating costs at the works too.”

To date 8.2MW of photovoltaic (PV) power has now been installed at over 43 SW sites generating 6.5 GWh of renewable energy annually.

Last year Scottish Water achieved a major energy milestone when it was announced the amount of renewable energy the company generates and facilitates is now more than double its electricity consumption.

Currently 73 of Scottish Water’s water and waste water treatment are now either self-sufficient or partly sufficient in their power requirements.

These projects contribute to the Scottish Government’s ambitious new targets for Scottish Water which sets out that the utility will generate or host three times the energy it uses by 2030.
