[캐나다] 뉴펀들랜드·래브라도 정부, 수도서비스에 집중 투자

캐나다 정부와 뉴펀들랜드 및 래브라도(Newfoundland and Labrador) 정부는 4개의 상수도와 하·폐수 프로젝트에 대한 자금 지원을 발표했다.

이 프로젝트에 대한 투자로 주민들은 깨끗하고 마실 수 있는 물과 카본얼 타운(Town of Carbonear)과 빅토리아 타운(Town of Victoria)의 하수서비스를 개선할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

이 투자는 우수관(storm sewers), 수도관(water mains), 위생 하수관(sanitary sewer pipes) 등을 교체하는 작업에 투입된다. 이 작업은 또한 주요 도로를 따라 도로의 일부를 업그레이드하는 것을 포함한다.

뉴펀들랜드 및 래브라도(Newfoundland and Labrador)의 데릭 브래그(Derrick Bragg) 교통·인프라 장관은 "인프라 업그레이드에 대한 자금 지원은 이 지역에 안전하고 건강한 지역사회를 만드는 데 도움이 된다. 뉴펀들랜드와 래브라도 주민들에게 안정적인 수돗물, 하·폐수 및 도로 인프라를 제공하는 것이 이 정부의 최우선 과제이다"라고 말했다.

뉴펀들랜드와 래브라도(Newfoundland and Labrador) 정부에 따르면, 이러한 개선들은 더 건강한 생활환경을 만들고, 식수에 대한 접근을 제공하고, 하수 폐기물(슬러지)을 안전하게 처리할 수 있게 해줄 것으로 기대하고 있다.

카버니어(Carbonear)의 공공안전부 장관이면서 뉴펀들랜드와 래브라도의 하원의원(MHA ; Member of the House of Assembly)인 스티브 크로커(Steve Crocker)는 "이러한 사업과 자금은 지역 주민들이 안전하고 믿을 수 있는 식수와 하·폐수 시스템에 접근할 수 있도록 돕는데 매우 중요하다"라고 말했다.

스티브 크로커(Steve Crocker)는 이어 "주민들은 이러한 기본적이고 분명히 중요한 서비스를 기대하고 있으며, 우리는 지방 정부와 캐나다 연방정부 모두가 이러한 투자를 통해 우리 마을을 지속적으로 지원함으로써 카버니어(Carbonear) 도시가 더 살기 좋고, 일하고, 가족을 부양하기에 더 나은 지역사회가 될 수 있게 되어 기쁘다"라고 덧붙였다.

뉴펀들랜드와 래브라도(Newfoundland and Labrador) 정부는 이 사업에 110만 달러 이상을 투자하고 있고, 캐나다 정부는 '캐나다 인프라 투자 계획(Investing in Canada infrastructure plan)’의 녹색 인프라 스트림(Green Infrastructure Stream ; GIS) 을 통해 100만 달러 이상을 투자하고 있다.

게다가, 그 지방자치단체들도 73만 달러 이상을 기부하고 있다. 이 투자 총액은 300만 달러가 넘는다.

Newfoundland and Labrador governments to invest in water services
 

The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador have announced financing for four water and wastewater projects.

Investment in these projects will enable residents to get ‘greater access’ to clean, potable water, as well as improved sewer service in the Town of Carbonear, and the Town of Victoria.

The investment will be made towards the work that involves replacing storm sewers, water mains, as well as sanitary sewer pipes. The work also involves upgrading portions of road along main streets. 

Newfoundland and Labrador Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Derrick Bragg said: “Funding for infrastructure upgrades help to create safe and healthy communities in the region. Providing reliable water, wastewater and road infrastructure to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador is a priority for this government.”

According to Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, these improvements will create a healthier environment to live, provides access to potable water, and safe disposal of sewage waste.

Carbonear Minister of Public Safety and MHA Steve Crocker said: “These projects and funding are critical for assisting municipalities to provide residents with access to safe and reliable drinking water and wastewater systems.

“Residents expect these basic and unequivocally important services, and we are pleased that both provincial and federal governments have continued to support our Town through these investments, ensuring the Town of Carbonear is a better community to live, work and raise a family.”

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is investing over $1.1m in these projects, while the Canadian government is investing over $1m through the Green Infrastructure Stream (GIS) of the ‘Investing in Canada infrastructure plan’.

Furthermore, the municipalities are also contributing over $730,000. Together, these investments total over $3m.
