[필리핀] ADB, 나우르 물관리 서비스 확대 위해  500만달러 지원

아시아개발은행(ADB)과 나우루(Nauru) 정부는 나우루의 도시 서비스 증진을 위한 ADB 지원 프로젝트의 준비를 돕기 위해 500만 달러의 보조금을 지원하기로 8월 31일 서명했다.

나우루의 재무부장관이 ADB 나우루 총재인 마틴 헌트(Martin Hunt)와 ADB 태평양국장인 리아 구티에레즈(Leah Gutierrez)는 제안된 나우루의 지속가능한 도시 개발 프로젝트를 이행하는 데 필요한 평가, 계획 및 역량 구축에 부분적으로 자금을 지원할 이 보조금 협정에 서명했다.

마틴 헌트(Martin Hunt) 총재는 "나우루의 도시지역에서의 성장은 상수도와 위생시설 등 필수적인 서비스에 스트레스를 주고 있"면서 "이 도시 프로젝트에 대한 중대한 필요성이 있으며, 준비가 핵심이며, ADB가 이를 계획하고 개발하는 데 있어 지원을 아끼지 않아 감사드린다"라고 말했다.

제안된 2천만 달러 규모의 프로젝트는 약 2천150가구의 필수 도시 서비스에 대한 접근성과 안전성을 높이는데 사용된다.

ADB 태평양국장인 리아 구티에레즈(Leah Gutierrez)는 "나우루에 사는 사람들의 건강과 안녕은 안전한 물, 위생, 그리고 효과적인 고체 폐기물 관리에 더 잘 접근하는 것에 달려 있다"라고 말했다.

리아 구티에레즈(Leah Gutierrez) 국장은 이어 "ADB는 특히 기후 변화와 자연 재해에 노출되는 상황에서 복원력과 지속가능성 향상에 초점을 맞춘 이번 도시 프로젝트 계획에서 나우루 정부를 지원하고 있다"라고 덧붙였다.

ADB는 프로젝트 준비 시설을 사용하여 프로젝트 개발 엔지니어링 설계 및 조달 계획을 신속하게 추진할 에정이다. ADB 프로젝트 팀은 또한 새로운 도시 시설을 관리하고 개선된 서비스를 제공하기 위한 정책과 역량을 개발할 방침이다. 50만 달러의 보조금은 ADB의 아시아 개발 기금에서 조달된다. 나우루 정부는 21만 달러를 기부하고 있다.

ADB는 극빈 퇴치를 위한 노력을 지속하면서 번영하고 포용적이며 탄력적이며 지속가능한 아시아와 태평양을 이루기 위해 노력하고 있다. 1966년에 설립되었으며, 이 지역의 회원인 49명이 소유하고 있다.

ADB and Nauru Sign Grant to Expand and Improve Water, Waste Management Services

YAREN, NAURU (31 August 2020) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Nauru today signed a $5 million grant to help fund the preparation of an ADB-supported project for boosting urban services in Nauru.

Nauru’s Minister of Finance and ADB Governor Martin Hunt and ADB Pacific Department Director General Leah Gutierrez signed the grant agreement, which will partly fund the assessment, planning, and capacity building needed to implement the proposed Nauru Sustainable Urban Development Project.

“Growth in Nauru’s urban areas puts stress on essential services, including water supply and sanitation,” said Mr. Hunt. “There is a critical need for this urban project, preparation is key, and we appreciate ADB’s support in planning and developing it.” 

The proposed $20 million project will increase access to and improve the quality and safety of essential urban services for about 2,150 households on the island.

“The public health and well-being of people in Nauru depends on having better access to safe water, sanitation, and effective solid waste management,” Ms. Gutierrez said.

“ADB is supporting the Government of Nauru in the planning of this urban project, which will also focus on improved resilience and sustainability, particularly in the face of climate change and exposure to natural disasters.”

ADB will use its project readiness facility to fast-track project-developing engineering designs and procurement plans. The ADB project team will also develop policies and capacities to manage the new urban facilities and deliver improved services.

The $5 million grant is sourced from ADB’s Asian Development Fund. The Government of Nauru is contributing $210,000.
