[스페인] NX Filtration, 바르셀로나 강변여과수 개발

스페인 바르셀로나 대도시 지역의 물순환 관리를 담당하는 민관 기업 아이구에스 드 바르셀로나(Aigües de Barcelona)는 NX 필트레이션(NX Filtration)의 직접 나노여과막 기술로 바르셀로나 로브리가트(Llobregat)강의 강변여과를 통해 식수생산에 착수한다고 지난 11일 밝혔다.
 
바르셀로나는 물스트레스와 인구밀도가 높은 지역으로 아이구에스 드 바르셀로나는 NX 필트레이션의 직접 나노여과(dNF) 멤브레인을 활용해 지표수 처리를 단순화할 수 있는 기술을 채택했다.

지표수는 강수량, 계절적 영향 등에 따라 유동적인 특성을 갖고 있어 취수과정에서 안전성 등의 문제가 발생해왔다. 아이구에스 드 바르셀로나 이러한 문제 해결을 위한 방법으로 수처리 공정의 간소화, 에너지 및 화학물질 소비 저감 등을 목표로 기존 수처리 기술 대비 물발자국을 줄이는데 노력을 기울이고 있다.

이번 시범사업은 NX 필트레이션의 ‘멕스퍼트(Mexpert)’ 파일럿을 기반으로 약 15개월 간 진행될 예정이다. 아이구에스 드 바르셀로나는 생태계 보호와 사회적 전환을 촉진하고 미래 도전에 대비하기 위한 사람들의 삶의질 향상과 지구 건강을 개선하기 위한 파트너십을 적극적으로 추진 중이다.

알레한드로 로만(Alejandro Roman) NX Filtration 최고 콘텐츠책임자(CCO)는 “우리의 기술은 음용수에서 미네랄 성분을 통과시키면서도 미세 오염 물질을 동시에 제거할 수 있어 매우 효과적인 기술”이라며 “바르셀로나의 수질과 물 가용성 문제 해결을 위해 기술 배치를 비롯한 다른 사이트와 응용 프로그램을 탐색하고 있다”고 말했다.

Aigües de Barcelona starts river water treatment pilot in Barcelona

Aigües de Barcelona, the public-private company responsible for managing the water cycle in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, Spain, starts a series of pilot projects with NX Filtration’s direct nanofiltration membranes. The objective of the first pilot project is to treat water from the Llobregat river in Barcelona to produce drinking water.

Since Barcelona is situated in a water stressed and densely populated region, Aigües de Barcelona has identified the direct nanofiltration (dNF) membranes of NX Filtration as an innovative technology that can significantly simplify the treatment of their surface waters. These surface waters have posed challenges due to their variability in quality, mainly due to seasonal impacts. The pilot will target the reduction of processing steps, reduced energy and chemicals consumption and attend to the problem of limited space. As such, Aigües de Barcelona aims for more production of drinking water with less resources through achieving better recoveries with a smaller footprint than the current conventional technologies used.

Eva León González, Innovation, Investigation and Technology Manager at Aigües de Barcelona, comments: “Compared to conventional water treatment technologies, direct nanofiltration could provide high quality water whilst reducing the number of filtration steps, thus simplifying the treatment of surface water and saving space. In addition, this technology also provides various advantages in terms of sustainability, as it reduces energy consumption and avoids the use of pre-treatment chemicals. Partnerships are key for Aigües de Barcelona to promote innovation aimed at realizing social and environmental impact.”

Alejandro Roman, Chief Commercial Officer at NX Filtration, comments: “We are proud to deploy our unique direct nanofiltration membranes for Aigües de Barcelona. Our technology is highly effective in removing micropollutants while allowing the passage of minerals that are desirable in drinking water. Jointly we are also exploring other sites and applications for deploying our technology in addressing water quality and water availability challenges. Wastewater reuse being one area already planned into this piloting campaign with Aigües de Barcelona.”

The pilot campaign is based on NX Filtration’s full-scale “Mexpert” pilot system and is expected to run for approximately 15 months. Aigües de Barcelona continues to promote innovation projects through partnerships to advance the ecological and social transition, prepare for future challenges and improve the quality of life of people and the health of the planet.
