[미국] 부강테크, 하수처리장에 데이터센터 짓는 ‘Co-Flow’ 사업 미국서 본격화

자회사 투모로우워터, 글로벌 설계·컨설팅 기업 아카디스와 업무협약 

‘Co-Flow', 데이터센터 부지 문제와 에너지 문제 동시 해결…중랑물재생센터에 적용

글로벌 수처리 전문기업인 부강테크(대표 최문진)의 미국 자회사인 투모로우 워터(Tomorrow Water)는 아카다스(Arcadis)와 데이터센터와 하수처리장을 지속가능하게 배치하기 위한 투모로우 워터의 특허 프로세스인 'Co-Flow'를 사업을 추진하기 위해 업무협약을 체결했다.

'Co-Flow'는 단일 부지에 하·수처리장과 데이터센터를 통합하여 두 시설의 에너지와 유체 흐름을 연결하여 지속가능성과 경제성을 개선해준다.

프로세스 강화는 혁신적인 수냉식 개념과 결합된 공정 강화는 설치 공간을 줄이고 음용수 사용, 에너지 및 수명 주기 비용을 줄이는 동시에 특히 물이 부족한 지역의 데이터센터를 위한 매우 매력적이고 지속 가능한 솔루션을 만든다.

또한 이 기술을 통해 기존 처리 인프라 위에 데이터센터를 구축할 수 있어 새로운 데이터센터에 필요한 설치 공간을 더욱 줄일 수 있다.

자연 및 건축 자산을 위한 글로벌 설계 및 컨설팅 회사인 아르카다스(Arcadis)는 지역사회와 협력하여 지속가능한 워터솔루션, 데이터센터 및 기타 중요 인프라를 설계한다.

협약의 일환으로 아카디스는 Co-Flow 개념과 공정 특허에 대한 기술적·경제적 평가를 실시할 예정이다. 평가가 완료되면 아카디스와 투모로우워터는 미국 내 첫 Co-Flow 프로젝트를 개발할 예정이다.

아카디스(Arcadis)의 우푹 어달(Ufuk Erdal) 수석 부사장 겸 물재이용 이사는 “데이터 센터와 하·폐수 재활용 시설을 함께 배치하면 하·폐수 방류를 줄이고, 식수 수요를 상쇄하며, 물이 부족한 지역에 3중 수익률을 제공하는 데 도움이 될 것”이라면서 “우리는 Co-Flow 과정이 삶의 질을 향상시키는 공동 입지 프로젝트를 어떻게 가능하게 할 수 있는지 알아보기 위해 Tomorrow Water와 협력하게 되어 기쁘다”고 말했다.

Tomorrow Water and Arcadis to partner on data center and wastewater treatment plant sustainability

Anaheim, Calif. - January 24, 2022 - Tomorrow Water, an environmental solutions provider has signed an agreement to collaborate with Arcadis to evaluate and develop Co-Flow, Tomorrow Water’s patented process for sustainably co-locating data centers with wastewater treatment plants.

Co-Flow integrates a wastewater treatment plant and a data center on a single plot of land, linking the energy and fluid streams of both facilities to improve sustainability and economics. 

Process intensification coupled with an innovative water-cooling concept results in compact footprints, reduced potable water use, energy and life cycle costs while creating a highly attractive and sustainable solution for data centers especially in water stressed areas. 

The technology also enables data centers to be built on top of the existing treatment infrastructure, further reducing the footprint required for the new data centers.  

Arcadis, a global design and consultancy firm for natural and built assets, works with communities to design sustainable water solutions, data centers and other critical infrastructure.   

As part of the agreement, Arcadis will conduct a technical and economic evaluation of the Co-Flow concept and process patents. Once the evaluation is complete, Arcadis and Tomorrow Water will develop the first Co-Flow projects in the U.S.

“Co-locating data centers and wastewater reclamation plants will help reduce wastewater discharges, offset potable water demand and offer triple-bottom-line benefits to the water-stressed regions. 

We are excited to partner with Tomorrow Water to explore how the Co-Flow process may enable co-location projects that improve quality of life,” said Ufuk Erdal, senior vice president and water reuse director at Arcadis.
