[미국] 펜실베이니아 아메리칸 워터, 노후 상수도관 교체 작업 본격화

펜실베이니아 아메리칸 워터(Pennsylvania American Water)는 오늘 루체른(Luzerne) 카운티의 하노버 타운십(Hanover Township)에 있는 5천피트 이상의 수도 본관을 교체하는 130만 달러 프로젝트의 시작을 발표했다. 펜실베이니아 아메리칸 워터의 이번 수도관 교체 사업은 1893년 설치 돼 노후화와 각종 서비스 중단 문제 등을 해결해 고객의 신뢰성을 개선하고 소방용 물탱크의 흐름을 증가시킬 예정이다.

회사는 △인만 에비뉴(Inman Avenue) △데이비드 로드(David Road) △윌콕스 스트리트(Wilcox Street) 등 총 7개의 도로를 따라 기존 4·6인치 수도관을 8연성 철관으로 대체할 예정이다. 작업은 평일 오전 7시부터 오후 5시까지 이뤄지며 오는 6월까지 모든 서비스 라인을 새로운 본관에 연결하는 것을 포함해 수도 본관 설치를 완료하고 8월에 최종 복원 및 포장을 시작할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

펜실베이니아 아메리칸 워터에 따르면 사회기반시설 개선 공사는 공중 보건 및 안전에 대한 중요한 투자일 뿐만 아니라 지역사회의 경제적 건강을 지원하는 데 도움이 된다고 밝혔다. 경제적 영향 연구(Economic impact studies)에 따르면 물 인프라에 100만 달러를 투자할 때마다 경제 전반에 걸쳐 15개 이상의 일자리가 생성될 수 있다. 펜실베이니아 아메리칸 워터는 노후 상하수도관 교체 등 지속적인 투자를 통해 매년 3천700개 이상의 일자리를 지원하고 있다.

$1.3 Million Water Line Project Underway in Hanover Twp.

SCRANTON, Pa. (February 17, 2022) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of a $1.3 million project to replace more than 5,000 feet of water main in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting. The system improvements replace water main dating as far back as 1893.

Company contractors recently began installing new eight- ductile iron pipe, replacing existing four- and six-inch water main along the following streets:

Inman Avenue
David Road
Wilcox Street
Loxley Avenue
Lee Park Avenue
Woodbury Street
McGoverns Hill

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction.  The company expects to complete the water main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, by June with final restoration and paving to start in August.

This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Through our continued investments, Pennsylvania American Water’s 2021 and 2022 infrastructure upgrade projects will support more than 3,700 jobs each year.  Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $373 million in 2021 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems.
