[영국] 서번트렌트, 아이트론·코넥신과 스마트 계량기 구축 사업 추진

영국 상하수도 기업 서번트렌트(Severn Trent)는 스마트 계량 및 데이터 회사 아이트론(Itron)과 스마트 기술 제공업체 코넥신(Connexin)과 계약을 맺고 코벤트리와 워릭셔 두 지역에 스마트 상하수도 구축에 나선다.

서번트렌트의 녹색회복프로그램(Green Recovery Programme)의 일부인 ‘£20m’ 프로젝트는 코벤트리와 워릭셔 두 지역에 15만대 이상의 아이트론 스마트 수도 계량기를 설치해 데이터를 수집하는 데 필요한 지능형 인프라와 계량기를 구축하는 것이다.

서번트렌트는 두 지역 네트워크 전체에 스마트 계량기를 설치해 물 사용량 파악, 누수방지 등 지역 사회와 환경에 물절약 혜택을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

앤서니 히킨바텀(Anthony Hickinbottom) 녹색 회복 프로젝트 책임자는 “아이트론과 코넥신 두 기업은 전문지식뿐만 아니라 고객의 비용을 절약할 수 있는 모든 이점을 가져다줄 스마트 미터 데이터 네트워크를 구현하는 데 중요한 역할을 할 것”이라며 “이번 프로젝트는 업계가 물이 사용되는 곳을 더 잘 이해하고 미래세대를 위한 물관리 방법을 형성하는 데 귀중한 학습과 통찰력을 제공할 것”이라고 말했다.

코넥신과 아이트론은 15만대가 넘는 스마트 계량기 설치를 비롯해 지역 전체에 스마트 수도 네트워크를 배포할 예정이다. 또한 저전력 광역(LPWA) 네트워킹 프로토콜 ‘LoRaWAN®’ 을 통해 수량계의 데이터를 원격으로 기록하고 최적화된 데이터 수집을 바탕으로 네트워크 전반의 탄소 배출을 줄일 수 있다.

한편 서번트렌트는 ‘코로나19’ 팬데믹 이후 영국의 녹색 경제 회복을 지원하기 위한 프로젝트에 2025년까지 5억6천600만 파운드를 투자하고 있다. 회복 프로젝트에는 유역 개선, 물공급 증가, 자연 기반 솔루션을 사용한 홍수 완화, 노후화된 납 파이프 교체 및 수도비용 절감을 위한 스마트 미터 설치 등이 포함돼 있다.

Severn Trent chooses Itron and Connexin to help turn Coventry and Warwickshire into a smart water region

Severn Trent has awarded contracts to smart metering and data company Itron and smart technology provider Connexin to help transform Coventry and Warwickshire into a smart water data region.

The £20m project, part of Severn Trent’s Green Recovery Programme, will see Itron and Connexin help deliver on its commitment of installing over 150,000 Itron smart water meters across Coventry and Warwickshire, laying the intelligent infrastructure and meters needed to gather valuable data.

Installing the smart meters across its network will help Severn Trent understand water usage better than ever before, find and fix leaks, and deliver water saving benefits for communities and the environment.

Anthony Hickinbottom, Green Recovery Project Lead says: “We’re really excited to have Connexin and Itron on board to help us drive this ambitious and exciting project for the region.

“With the expertise and knowledge between them, they will play a vital role in ensuring we’re implementing a smart meter data network that will bring with it a whole host of benefits, that could also save our customers money.

“We all have a vital role in making sure we’re looking after water and doing right by it. This project will give us valuable learnings and insight in shaping how the industry can better understand where water is used, and make sure we’re looking after it for the future.”

As well as installing over 150,000 smart meters, Connexin and Itron will support Severn Trent by deploying a smart water network across the region. The large-scale, carrier-grade LoRaWAN® network will allow Severn Trent to remotely record and access data from the LoRaWAN®-enabled water meters, optimise data collection and reduce carbon emissions across its network.  Roll-out of the network and meters is due to begin in March 2022.

Severn Trent is investing £566m between now and 2025 on projects aimed to support the UK’s green economic bounce back following the pandemic.

The projects include creating bathing-quality stretches of river, improving 500km of river five years earlier than planned, increasing water supplies, alleviating flooding using nature-based solutions and supporting customers by replacing old lead pipes and installing smart meters to save water and customers money.
