[미국] 솔트웍스, 첨단 소재 제조 플랜트에 ‘XtremeUF’ 제공키로
기존 정화기나 고분자 한외여과기로 처리 어려웠던 특정 오염물질 제거
설치면적 줄이는 동시에 낮은 운영비용으로 전반적인 물 균형 개선 가능

캐나다의 산업용수 처리 전문업체 솔트웍스 테크놀로지(Saltworks Technologies)는 최근 미국의 첨단 소재 제조 플랜트에 풀-스케일(full-scale) 소형 자동화 한외여과 시스템인 ‘XtremeUF’를 납품한다고 밝혔다.

‘XtremeUF’ 시스템은 기존 정화기나 고분자 한외여과기로 처리하는 데 한계가 있었던 특정 오염물질을 제거할 수 있다.

적절하게 구현되기만 하면, 설치 면적을 줄이는 동시에 낮은 운영비용으로 전반적인 물 균형(water balance)도 개선할 수 있다.

솔트웍스는 올해 안으로 ‘XtremeUF’ 시스템을 생산해 납품할 예정이다.

말콤 맨(Malcolm Man) 솔트웍스 상무보는 “‘XtremeUF’ 시스템은 광범위하게 사용가능한 세라믹 멤브레인 요소를 중심으로 제작된 자동 세척 로봇과도 같다. 경화된 비폴리머 멤브레인은 충격에 취약하지만 당사는 범용 멤브레인 요소를 사용하기 때문에 고객이 단일 공급업체에 의존하지 않아도 된다”고 말했다.

그는 이어 “솔트웍스의 밸류애드(value-add)는 시스템이 최대 용량으로 작동하도록 하는 당사의 혁신적이고 독점적인 프로세스 제어가 적용된 소형 고품질 스키드”라면서 “우리는 제조, 광업, 발전과 같은 중요한 산업이 ‘XtremeUF’의 혜택을 받는 것을 보게 되어 매우 기쁘다”고 말했다.

Saltworks delivers UF system to US plant

Saltworks Technologies recently delivered a full-scale compact and automated XtremeUF ultrafiltration system to an advanced materials manufacturing plant in the US. XtremeUF removes specific contaminants that conventional clarifiers and polymeric ultrafiltration have struggled with, either due to reliability, excessive chemical consumption, or space requirements. When appropriate and implemented correctly, ceramic ultrafiltration improves overall water balance at lower operating costs while saving valuable floor space. Saltworks has more XtremeUF systems in production, which it will be delivering this year.

Saltworks originally developed XtremeUF technology for industrial desalination, specifically to remove precipitated scaling ions in order to enable ultra-high recovery membrane desalination (for example, recoveries up to 99%). XtremeUF is increasingly being deployed in non-desalination applications for its versatility and long-term reliability. The technology is being used to remove chemical reaction by-products in manufacturing, produce electric vehicle (EV) battery-grade inputs, and to extract and recycle constituents of value from waste streams.
