지하수 신뢰성 플러스사업 통해 지역 지하수 공급에 투자 확대

 

EMWD(Eastern Municipal Water District)는 지하수를 통해 미래를 내다보고 있다고 밝혔다.

EMWD는 앞으로 서비스를 제공하는 방식을 형성할 지하수 신뢰성 플러스(Groundwater Reliability Plus) 사업을 통해 지역 지하수 공급에 대한 투자를 확대한다고 밝혔다.

EMWD는  자신토 밸리(San Jacinto Valley)의 토지 소유자가 지하수 권리를 관리할 수 있도록 돕기 위해 1950년에 설립 이후 EMWD는 주에서 6번째로 큰 소매 물 관리 기관으로 성장했으며, 현재 558평방마일에 걸쳐 거의 100만 명에게 서비스를 제공하고 있다.

향후 수십 년 동안 해당 지역에서 예상되는 성장에 대비하기 위해 EMWD는 추가 우물, 처리 시설 및 지하수 보충 프로그램을 통해 서비스 지역 전반에 걸쳐 지하수 인프라와 공급을 확장하고 있다.

필 폴(Phil Paule) EMWD 이사회 회장은 “지하수 신뢰성 플러스 프로그램은 우리의 미래를 위한 로드맵"이라며 "지역 지하수 공급에 투자함으로써 EMWD는 고객이 신뢰할 수 있는 안정적이고 비용 효과적인 물 공급원을 제공하고 있다"고 말했다.

EMWD는 현재 서비스 지역 전체에 걸쳐 다양한 건설 단계에서 세 가지 주요 지하수 프로그램을 운영하고 있다.

올해 EMWD는 메니피(Menifee)에 있는 세 번째 지하수 담수화 시설에 대한 작업을 완료할 예정이다. Perris II Desalter는 페리스(Perris)와 메니피(Menifee) 지역의 지하수에서 자연적으로 발생하는 염분을 제거하고 고품질의 식수원을 생산하는 EMWD의 능력을 크게 확장할 것이다.

EMWD의 Perris North Groundwater Program은 모레노 밸리(Moreno Valley)에 6개의 우물과 지하수 처리 시설을 건설하고 있다. 이 프로그램은 지역 지하수 오염을 정화하고 매년 수천 가구에 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 기반 시설을 제공할 것이다.

EMWD는 또한 지역 산타애나강(Santa Ana River) 보존 및 결합 사용 프로그램의 일환으로 샌 자신토(San Jacinto)에 4개의 지하수 우물과 처리 시설을 건설하고 있다. 2021년 말에 EMWD는 샌 자신토(San Jacinto)에 있는 Mountain Avenue West 지하수 보충 시설 작업을 완료하여, EMWD가 우기와 평년 동안 북부 캘리포니아 및 기타 출처의 물로 현지 지하수 공급을 보충할 수 있게 됐다.

EMWD는 정화수 보충(PWR) 프로그램의 설계 단계에 있다. 샌 자신토(San Jacinto)에 위치한 이 프로그램은 EMWD의 재 이용된 물을 사용하여 고급 정밀여과 및 역삼투 기술을 포함한 추가 처리 수준을 적용한다.

처리된 재이용수는 EMWD의 Mountain Avenue West 지하수 보충 시설에 배치되어 지역 대수층으로 함양돼 깨끗하고 안전하며 신뢰할 수 있는 물 공급원을 제공한다. 이 물은 식수로 사용되기 전에 추출되고 한 번 더 세척되기 전까지 약 5년 동안 지하에 저류 할 것이다.

폴 회장은 "지하수는 귀중한 자원이며, EMWD는 지하수 인프라를 확장할 뿐만 아니라 지역 지하수 유역을 책임감 있게 관리하여, 미래 세대를 위해 지하수가 지속 가능하게 된 것을 자랑스럽게 생각한다"라고 말했다.

Investments in Groundwater Shape EMWD’s Water Supply Future

Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is looking to the future by looking underground.

As part of its commitment to provide long-term water supply reliability to its growing communities, EMWD is expanding investments in local groundwater supplies through its Groundwater Reliability Plus program that will shape the way it provides service moving forward.

EMWD was originally founded in 1950 to help area landowners manage groundwater rights in the San Jacinto Valley. Since then, EMWD has grown to become the state’s sixth-largest retail water agency and currently serves nearly 1 million people across 558 square miles.

To prepare for the anticipated growth in its region in the coming decades, EMWD is expanding its groundwater infrastructure and supplies throughout its service area through additional wells, treatment facilities and groundwater replenishment programs.

“Our Groundwater Reliability Plus program is the roadmap for our future,” EMWD Board President Phil Paule said. “By investing in our local groundwater supplies, EMWD is providing a reliable and cost-effective water supply source our customers can depend on.”

EMWD currently has three major groundwater programs in various stages of construction throughout its service area:

This year, EMWD will complete work on its third groundwater desalination facility in Menifee. The Perris II Desalter will significantly expand EMWD’s ability to remove naturally-occurring salts from groundwater in the Perris and Menifee areas and produce a high-quality drinking water source.

EMWD’s Perris North Groundwater Program is constructing six wells and a groundwater treatment facility in Moreno Valley. This program will clean up local groundwater contamination and provide the infrastructure to serve thousands of households each year.

EMWD is also constructing four groundwater wells and a treatment facility in San Jacinto as part of its regional Santa Ana River Conservation and Conjunctive Use Program. In late 2021, EMWD completed work on its Mountain Avenue West Groundwater Replenishment Facility in San Jacinto that will allow EMWD to replenish its local groundwater supplies with water from Northern California and other sources during wet and normal years.

EMWD is also in the design stage of a Purified Water Replenishment (PWR) program. This program, located in San Jacinto, will take EMWD’s recycled water and apply additional treatment levels including advanced microfiltration and reverse osmosis technologies.

The advanced treated recycled water will be placed into EMWD’s Mountain Avenue West Groundwater Replenishment Facility, where it will percolate into the local aquifer and provide a clean, safe and reliable water supply source. That water will be underground for approximately five years before it is extracted and cleaned once more before being used as drinking water.

“Groundwater is a valuable resource and EMWD is proud to not only expand our groundwater infrastructure, but to responsibly manage our local groundwater basins so they are sustainable for future generations,” Paule said.
