[미국] 삼성전자 오스틴 반도체공장, '에보쿠아 물 지속가능성상' 수상

에보쿠아(Evoqua Water Technologies)는 2022년 에보쿠아 물 지속가능성 상 수상자로 오스틴의 삼성전자 반도체공장을 선정했다고 밝혔다. 이 상은, 혁신적이고 지속 가능한 방법으로 신기술을 사용하는 기업이나 기존의 기술을 사용하고 있는 기업 및 절수 분야에서 큰 진전을 이룬 기업 등 물관리 분야의 우수성을 인정하고 있다.

오스틴 반도체공장은 최근 처리 솔루션을 업그레이드하여 폐수에서 구리를 제거하고 보다 친환경적인 방법으로 배출하기 전에 회수했다. 성공적인 파일럿 프로젝트에 이어 에보쿠아는 시설과 협력하여 공동 엔지니어링 솔루션을 기반으로 한 본격적인 폐수 이온 교환 솔루션을 설계 및 설치함으로써 발전소에 단순하고 지속 가능한 처리 시스템을 제공했다.

시스템 설계에는 다음과 같은 많은 이점이 포함되어 있다.

연간 약 150만 갤런의 절수량에 해당하는 석회 슬러리 제거

연간 약 1천400톤의 화학물질 절감

탄소 사용률을 최적화하여 필요한 서비스 방문 횟수와 연간 약 1만 파운드의 탄소 매체 소비량 절감

폐수 흐름에서 구리를 회수하여 매립지로 보내지는 구리를 연간 약 1만5천 파운드 절감

처리 과정 중 화학물질 취급을 줄여 직원 안전 향상

에보쿠아 직원들은 물 관리, 지역사회 영향, 물 및 에너지 효율, 환경 보호에 있어 우수성을 보여 주는 고객 기반에서 지속 가능한 기업을 선정한다. 이 상은 매년 3월 22일에 열리는 세계 물의 날에 수여된다. 다른 최종 후보로는 Orange County Water District와 Atlantis Dubai가 있었다.

Evoqua Water Technologies Names Samsung Austin Semiconductor Winner of Annual Water Sustainability Award

PITTSBURGH--Evoqua Water Technologies (NYSE: AQUA), an industry leader in mission-critical water treatment solutions, today named Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC as the recipient of the 2022 Evoqua Water Sustainability Award. The award recognizes Evoqua customers for their excellence in water stewardship, including those companies using new or existing technologies in innovative, sustainable ways, as well as companies that have made significant strides in water reduction.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., has been recognized for Evoqua's annual sustainability award after demonstrating noteworthy enhancements in waste reduction and water conservation for its semiconductor manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas. Samsung Austin Semiconductor is committed to environmental excellence in the operation of its advanced manufacturing operations.

The Austin facility recently upgraded its treatment solution to remove and recover copper from its wastewater prior to discharge in a more environmentally friendly manner. Following a successful pilot project, Evoqua worked with the facility to design and install a full-scale wastewater ion exchange solution based upon collaborative engineering solutions, providing the plant with a simplified and sustainable treatment system.

The system design incorporates many benefits, including:

Elimination of an estimated 1.5 million pounds of sludge sent to the landfill annually

Removal of lime slurry equating to an estimated 1.5 million gallons of water conserved per year

Reducing approximately 1,400 tons of chemicals per year

Optimizing its carbon usage rate, thereby reducing the number of service visits required and the amount of carbon media consumed by an estimated 10,000 pounds per year

Recovery of copper from the wastewater stream, reducing approximately 15,000 pounds of copper being sent to landfills annually

Improving employee safety by reducing the handling of chemicals during the treatment process

Evoqua employees nominate sustainable companies from its customer base for exhibiting excellence in water stewardship, community impact, water and energy efficiency, and environmental protection. The award is given on World Water Day, which occurs annually on March 22. Other finalists included Orange County Water District and Atlantis Dubai.

Due to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) being detected in groundwater basins, Orange County Water District (OCWD) was forced to import its water, which could be costly and difficult to source particularly in drought conditions. To address the issue, OCWD installed a state-of-the-art PFAS treatment system at their City of Fullerton Kimberly Well 1A Treatment Plant. The installation included an Evoqua ion exchange treatment system to remove the harmful contaminants and provide safe and reliable drinking water to its residents. The system meets all state and federal drinking water standards while providing a sustainable and more cost-effective water source for the City and its residents.

In June 2021, Atlantis Dubai launched the Atlantis Atlas Project, centered around protecting and preserving the natural world through awareness and education, including acting responsibly to conserve energy, water, and natural resources. To reduce potable water consumption, Atlantis replaced all of its sand filters with Evoqua's Defender® regenerative media filters in its freshwater systems, including its swimming pools, waterpark, and spa. This new system provides the resort with exceptional filtration capabilities in addition to significant water and energy savings compared to sand filtration.
