[미국] 물환경연맹,  '2022 WEF 운영 및 디자인 우수상' 수상자 발표

물환경연맹(Water Environment Federation, WEF)은 '2022 WEF 운영 및 디자인 우수상(2022 WEF Operational and Design Excellence Awards)' 수상자를 발표했다. 수상자는 수질 환경에 대한 탁월한 공헌과 운영상의 문제에 대한 솔루션으로 인정받고 있다.

산업용수 수질 공로상(Industrial Water Quality Achievement Award)

이 상은 산업 폐수, 전처리 또는 수원 방지의 혁신적인 설계 및 운영으로 입증된 바와 같이 수질 개선 또는 수질 악화 방지에서 중요하고 지속적이며 측정 가능한 우수성을 가장 잘 입증한 기업 및 프로그램에 수여된다.

부시 브라더스 앤 컴퍼니(Bush Brothers & Company)

테네시 주 체스트넛 힐 소재 BB&C(Bush Brothers & Company) 콩류 생산 시설은 제조 공장에서 공정 용수 재이용 시설을 통해 지속 가능성, 신뢰성, 유연성 및 환경 보존을 통합하는 데 한 걸음 더 나아갔다. 처리된 모든 폐수는 다시 사용되며 생성된 모든 바이오 가스는 추가 연료원으로 활용된다.

혁신 기술상(INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY AWARD)

이 상은 처리시설의 건설, 운영 또는 유지보수와 관련된 새로운 혁신적인 제품이나 서비스를 소개한 WEF 전시회 회원에게 수여됩니다.

엔바이로 믹스(EnviroMix)

엔바이로믹스의 인(P) 환원 기술은 일반적인 MLE 구성을 개선한 것으로, 향상된 혐기성 단계는 VFA 생산을 증가시켜 에너지 소비 및 화학 침전물을 줄이면서 인의 감소를 증가시킨다.

아쿠아씰(Aquacycl)

아쿠아씰의 미생물 연료전지는 큰 가능성을 보여주었지만 상용화하기 힘든 기술을 제공한다. 박테리아가 유기물을 산화시키고 전자를 내보내는 능력은 폐수 처리를 촉진하고 전기를 공급할 수 있다.

GEA 그룹(GEA Group)

GEA의 Biosolids Granulator는 폐열(waste heat)과 고속 원심분리기를 사용하여 슬러지에서 물 제거를 극대화한다.

모건 운영 솔루션 상(MORGAN OPERATIONAL SOLUTIONS AWARD)

이 상은 1948년부터 1961년까지 아이오와 주립 대학에서 위생 공학 교수로 탁월한 공직을 역임한 필립 F. 모건(Philip F. Morgan)을 기리는 상으로, 시설 내 연구 및 운영 문제 해결에 대한 귀중한 기여를 인정한다.

케이시 멘처(Casey Mentzer)

네바다 물 환경 협회(Nevada Water Environment Association)

케이시 멘처는 네바다에 있는 Truckee Meadows 물 재이용 시설의 공정 엔지니어다. 케이시 멘처는 Ostara Pearl 2K 반응로의 운영 문제에 대한 연구 및 솔루션으로 공장 생산량을 크게 늘리고 가동 중지 시간을 줄이며 비용을 절감했다.

슈뢰퍼 혁신시설 설계훈장(SCHROEPFER INNOVATIVE FACILITY DESIGN MEDAL)

슈레퍼 메달은 환경 목표를 달성하면서 상당한 비용 절감 또는 경제적 이익을 달성하기 위한 프로젝트 설계를 구상하고 지시한 우수성을 인정한다. 이 메달은 WEF의 세 번째 회장이자 하·폐수 시설 설계에서 경제성을 강조한 교육자인 조지 슈뢰퍼(George J. Schroepfer)를 기리기 위한 상이다.

윌리엄 앙골리(William Angoli, P.E.)

센트럴 스테이트 물 환경 협회(Central States Water Environment Association)

앙골리는 위스콘신주 그린베이에 있는 NEW Water의 프로젝트 관리자로 지난 30년 동안 NEW Water에서 모든 주요 물 재이용 시설 프로젝트를 관리했다. 가장 최근에 2008년 시설 계획 개발을 시작으로 2019년에 완료된 설계, 건설 및 시운전을 통해 1억7천900만 달러 자원 회수 및 전기 에너지 프로젝트의 프로젝트 관리자로 임명되었다.

수질개선상(WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AWARD)

수질 개선상은 지역, 유역 또는 수역에서 수질 개선 또는 수질 악화 방지에 있어 중요하고 지속적이며 측정 가능한 우수성을 가장 잘 보여주는 수질 개선 프로그램에 매년 수여된다.

앤 애런델 카운티 '턴키' 프로그램(Anne Arundel County 'Turnkey' Program)

메릴랜드의 앤 애런델 카운티 유역 보호 및 복원국은 수질 개선 '턴키' 프로그램의 전체 제공을 구현했다. 이 프로그램은 지속 가능한 개발을 지원하는 매우 효율적인 메커니즘으로 입증되었다.

WEF 프로젝트 우수상(WEF PROJECT EXCELLENCE AWARD)

보이시(ID) 물 재생 유틸리티 계획(Boise (ID) Water Renewal Utility Plan)

Water Environment Federation Recognizes Operational and Design Excellence

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is announcing the 2022 WEF Operational and Design Excellence Awards recipients. These individuals and organizations are recognized for the outstanding contributions to the water environment and solutions to operational challenges.

INDUSTRIAL WATER QUALITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Industrial Water Quality Achievement Award is presented to a corporation that best demonstrates significant, lasting, and measurable excellence in water quality improvement or in the prevention of water quality degradation as demonstrated by innovative design and operation of an industrial wastewater, pretreatment, or source prevention program.

Bush Brothers & Company (Chestnut Hill, TN)

The Bush Brothers & Company (BB&C) bean production facility in Chestnut Hill, TN has gone the extra mile in incorporating sustainability, reliability, flexibility, and environmental conservation in the use of a Process Water Reclamation Facility at their manufacturing plant. All the treated effluent is put back into use and all the generated biogas is utilized as an additional fuel source.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY AWARD

This award recognizes WEF Exhibitor Members who have introduced new innovative products or services related to the construction, operation, or maintenance of treatment facilities.

EnviroMix– BioMix-DC: EnviroMix’s phosphorus reduction technology is a refinement of the typical MLE configuration. The enhanced anaerobic stage increases VFA production, which increases phosphorus reduction while reducing energy consumption and chemical precipitation.

Aquacycl–Biochemical Treatment: Aquacycl's microbial fuel cell delivers on a technology that has shown great promise but eluded commercialization. The ability of bacteria to oxidize organic matter and export electrons can both drive wastewater treatment and provide electricity.

GEA Group Biosolids–Biosolids Granulator: GEA’s biosolid granulator uses waste heat and a high-speed centrifuge to maximize the removal of water from sludge.

MORGAN OPERATIONAL SOLUTIONS AWARD

This award honors Philip F. Morgan, who served with distinction as professor of sanitary engineering at the State University of Iowa from 1948-1961. This award recognizes valuable contributions to the in-facility study and solution of operational problems.

Casey Mentzer

Nevada Water Environment Association

Casey Mentzer is the Process Engineer at the Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility in Nevada. This award is for his research and solution to operational issues of an Ostara Pearl 2K reactor. Casey significantly increased plant production, decreased downtime, and saved costs.

SCHROEPFER INNOVATIVE FACILITY DESIGN MEDAL

The Schroepfer Medal recognizes excellence in conceiving and directing the design of a project to achieve substantial cost savings or economic benefit, while achieving environmental objectives. The medal is in honor of George J. Schroepfer, WEF's third President, and an educator who stressed the economics in design of wastewater facilities.

William Angoli, P.E.

Central States Water Environment Association

Mr. Angoli is a Project Manager with NEW Water in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He has managed all major water reclamation facility projects at NEW Water over the past 30 years. Most recently, he was named project manager for the $179 million Resource Recovery and Electrical Energy project beginning with developing the facilities plan in 2008 through design, construction, and commissioning that was completed in 2019.

WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT AWARD

The Water Quality Improvement Award is presented annually to the water quality improvement program that best demonstrates significant, lasting, and measurable excellence in water quality improvement or in prevention of water quality degradation in a region, basin, or water body.

Anne Arundel County “Turnkey” Program (Anne Arundel County, MD)

Maryland’s Anne Arundel County Bureau of Watershed Protection & Restoration has implemented the Full Delivery of Water Quality Improvements “Turnkey” Program. This program has proven to be a highly efficient mechanism for supporting sustainable development.

WEF PROJECT EXCELLENCE AWARD

WEF's annual Project Excellence Award pays tribute to excellence and innovation in the execution of projects and programs in the water sector.

Boise (ID) Water Renewal Utility Plan

Honorees: City of Boise, Idaho Water Renewal Services, and Brown and Caldwell.

Boise's Water Renewal Services initiated a landmark planning process for Water Renewal Services, comprising of five facilities and approximately $3 billion in assets. Completed in 2020, the City and Brown and Caldwell created a plan that aligned utility activities with community expectations to guide capital expenditures over a 10- and 20-year planning horizon.
