국제물협회(IWA)는 '2022 IWA 세계물총회&전시회'에서 IWA 프로젝트 물 분야 혁신상 6개 부문 18명의 수상자를 대상으로 축하행사를 열어 수상자의 뛰어난 혁신과 리더십을 축하했다.

IWA 세계 물 대회에서 2년마다 수여되는 프로젝트 이노베이션 어워드는 물관리, 연구 및 기술의 우수성과 혁신을 인정하고 장려한다. 올해로 13회를 맞은 프로젝트 이노베이션 어워드(PIA) 프로그램에는 6개 부문과 각각 3명의 결승 진출자를 선정한다. 각 부문은 연구의 혁신부터 거버넌스의 혁신에 이르기까지 물 혁신의 뚜렷한 측면을 인정한다.

이번 IWA 프로젝트 이노베이션 어워드 공모과정에서는 52개국 203건의 지원자가 신청됐다. 이러한 관심은 IWA 네트워크 전반에 걸친 혁신과 야망의 깊이를 보여주며, 물 분야 전반에 걸쳐 낙관론 확산에 도움이 된다. IWA 프로젝트 이노베이션 어워드에 참가한 프로젝트는 6개 부문에 고르게 분포 됐으며, 물관리 혁신의 뚜렷한 혁신이 반영됐다. 모든 프로젝트는 혁신성과 주요 결과에 따라 전문가 심사위원단이 독립적으로 평가했다. 심사위원들은 또한 각 프로젝트가 고안된 상황과 더 광범위한 영향을 미칠 수 있는 가능성을 고려했다. 엄격하고 경쟁적인 평가 과정을 거쳐 심사위원단은 각 부문에 대해 상위 3개 프로젝트를 선정했다.

이 상은 IWA 회원과 네트워크 참가자가 물 부문과 세계에 가져온 물 과학 및 관리의 핵심 혁신의 귀중한 기여를 기념하며, 축하와 공식 표창을 통해 협회는 물의 지속가능한 관리에 기여하는 혁신에 대한 열망을 주도한다.

 

물은 인간과 환경 존재의 모든 측면을 뒷받침한다. 오늘날 세계가 직면한 심각한 물문제는 전례 없는 글로벌 대응이 필요하다. 혁신은 공평하고 지속 가능한 방식으로 인간 활동과 생태계의 요구를 충족시키기 위해 물이 현명하게 관리되는 세상이라는 IWA의 비전을 달성하는 데 중심적인 역할을 한다.

 

그랜드 이노베이션 어워드

(Grand Innovation Award)

케펠 마리나 이스트 담수화 플랜트(Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant)

싱가포르의 케펠 마리나 이스트 담수화 플랜트는 비전통적인 수처리 플랜트로 물 분야의 혁신을 인정 받아 그랜드 이노베이션 어워드를 수상했다. 이 시설은 수처리 공정을 지하화해 지상의 토지를 공공 및 친수활동을 위해 자유롭게 사용할 수 있는 세련되고 현대적인 디자인이 특징이다. 이 시설은 단일 기능 기반 시설에서 생물 다양성이 풍부하고 자연과 다양한 야생 동물을 지원하는 무성한 공원으로 변형시켜 엔지니어링 및 디자인 우수성이 지속 가능한 도시화를 추진하는 데 함께 갈 수 있음을 보여준다. 시설은 우세한 기상 조건에 따라 해수 또는 담수를 처리할 수 있다. 건조한 날씨에 KMEDP는 바닷물을 끌어다 담수를 생산한다. 비가 오면 시설은 마리나 저수지에 모인 빗물을 끌어와서 식수를 생산한다. 이 시설은 하루에 13만7천㎥의 식수를 생산할 수 있어 싱가포르의 물공급 탄력성을 강화했다. 싱가포르의 네 번째 담수화 플랜트이기도 한 이 프로젝트는 2020년 6월 가동을 시작했다.

성능 향상 및 운영 솔루션

- 금 : 제이콥스(Jacobs)의 창이 물재이용시설(Changi Water Reclamation Plant) 디지털 트윈 구현.

- 은 : 호주 시드니시의 효과적인 홍수 위험 관리 및 우수 수집을 통한 도시 재생.

- 동 : 악시오나(Acciona)의 친환경 담수화시스템.

 

연구 개발의 혁신

- 금 : 몬트클레어 주립대학교(Montclair State University)의 철산염(VI) 지원 가정용 수처리.

- 은 : 비비맥 - 웨투스(Vivimag - Wetsus)의 도시 하수에서 철 및 인산염 회수.

- 동 : 로건시의 호주 최초 바이오솔리드 가스화 시설.

At the 2022 IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition, the water sector celebrated outstanding innovation and leadership in the industry with a gala ceremony for the 18 winners of the six categories of the IWA Project Innovation Awards.

 

Awarded biennially at the IWA World Water Congress, the Project Innovation Awards recognise and promote excellence and innovation in water management, research and technology. This 13th edition of the Project Innovation Awards (PIA) programme features six categories with three finalists each. Each category recognises a distinct aspect of water innovation, from breakthroughs in research to innovations in governance.

 

The 13th IWA Project Innovation Awards attracted a record 203 applications from 52 countries during an open nomination process throughout 2021 and 2022. This scale of interest in the awards programme reveals the breadth of innovation and ambition throughout the IWA network, and should be a cause for great optimism across the sector. Entries were evenly spread across the six award categories, each of which reflects a distinct field of innovation in water management. Every project was independently evaluated by a panel of expert judges according to its innovative nature and key outcomes. Judges also took into account the circumstances in which each project was devised and its potential for broader impact. Following a rigorous and competitive evaluation process, the judging panel selected a top three for each category. Tonight, we are here to recognise the outstanding achievements of our finalists – and to celebrate trailblazing innovation as one of them is crowned winner of the Grand Innovation Award 2022.

 

Project Innovation Awards

 

The Awards celebrate the invaluable contribution of key innovations in water science and management, which IWA members and network participants bring to the water sector and the world. With this celebration and official distinction, the Association drives the desire for innovation contributing to the sustainable management of water.

Water underpins every aspect of human and environmental existence. The severe water challenges facing the world today require an unprecedented global response. Innovation plays a central role in achieving IWA’s vision of a world in which water is managed wisely to satisfy the needs of human activities and ecosystems in an equitable and sustainable way.

The Project Innovation Awards recognise that our shared challenges can be overcome through the development and implementation of creative water solutions.

Grand Innovation Award

Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant

The award categories include the Grand Innovation Award 2022 presented to an outstanding example of

innovation in the water sector. This year, the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant from Singapore has won the Grand Innovation Award for its unconventional water treatment plant. The plant features a sleek, modern design where water treatment processes are situated underground, freeing up the land at ground level for public and recreational activities. This transforms the plant from a mono-functional infrastructure into a lush park that is rich in biodiversity and supports nature and a variety of wildlife, demonstrating that engineering and design excellence can go hand-in-hand in the push for sustainable urbanisation. The plant can treat either seawater or freshwater depending on the prevailing weather conditions. In dry weather, KMEDP will draw water from the sea to produce desalinated water. When it rains, the plant will draw rainwater collected in the Marina Reservoir to produce potable water. The plant can produce 137,000 cubic metres of drinking water per day, strengthening Singapore’s water supply resilience. The project, which is also Singapore’s fourth desalination plant, began commercial operations in June 2020.
