[미국] 바이든 행정부, 「초당적인프라법」 통해 글렌 엘더 댐 배수로 교체 프로젝트에 1천400만달러 지원

미 연방국토개발국(Bureau of Reclamation)은 캔자스 중북부에 위치한 글렌 엘더 댐(Glen Elder Dam) 급경사 배수로 교체 프로젝트를 위해 바이든 대통령의 「초당적인프라법」을 통해 1천400만 달러의 자금 지원을 의무화했다고 밝혔다. 이 자금은 올해 초 미 전역의 노후 인프 프로젝트를 위해 「인프라법」에서 할당된 2억4천만 달러 투자의 일부이다.

글렌 엘더 댐은 솔로몬 강에 위치한 연방국토개발국 시설로 홍수 통제를 지원하고 주변 지역 사회를 보호한다. 1968년에 완성된 노후화된 인프라는 콘크리트 배수로 바닥을 교체해야 한다. 에임스 건설(Ames Construction, Inc.)은 4천120만 달러의 계약을 수주했으며 2022년 초에 작업을 시작하여 2025년에 완공될 예정이다.

애런 톰슨(Aaron Thompson) 연방국토개발국 네브라스카-캔자스 지역 관리자는 “글렌 엘더 댐은 주변 지역 사회의 생활 방식을 보호하는 데 매우 중요하다"면서 “댐의 주요 목적은 홍수 조절이며,  솔로몬 강 범람으로 인한 잠재적인 재난으로부터 이 지역 사회를 계속 보호해야 한다”고 말했다.

「초당적인프라법」은 노후된 물인프라 개선, 댐 안전, 농촌 물 프로젝트 완료, 수중 생태계 보호를 포함한 12개 프로그램 및 활동을 위해 연방국토개발국 83억 달러를 할당했다.

Biden-Harris Administration Allocates $14 million from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to Glen Elder Dam Project

 

The Bureau of Reclamation has obligated $14 million in funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law toward the Glen Elder Dam Spillway Chute Replacement project located in north central Kansas. The funding is part of a $240 million investment allocated earlier this year from the Infrastructure Law for aging infrastructure projects across the country.

Glen Elder Dam is a Bureau of Reclamation facility located on the Solomon River, which supports flood control, safeguarding the surrounding community. Completed in 1968, the aging infrastructure now requires replacement of the concrete spillway chute floor. Ames Construction, Inc. was awarded a $41.2 million contract and began work in early 2022 with completion estimated in 2025.

“Glen Elder Dam is critical to protecting the way of life in the surrounding communities,” said Reclamation’s Nebraska-Kansas Area Manager Aaron Thompson. “The main purpose of the dam is flood control; and we want to continue to safeguard these communities from potential disaster from Solomon River flooding for years to come.”

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocates $8.3 billion to the Bureau of Reclamation for twelve programs and activities including repairs for aging water infrastructure, dam safety, completing rural water projects, and protecting aquatic ecosystems.
