[사우디] SWCC, 킹압둘라과기대와 담수화 기술 개발 협력 강화

SWCC 산하 연구혁신담수화기술연구소 연구팀, 10월 6일 KAUST 방문

담수화 산업 지속가능성 달성·물공급 안전성 높이기 위해 물기술 개발·경험 교환키로

사우디아라비아 염수담수화공사(SWCC ; Saline Water Desalination Corporation) 산하 연구혁신담수화기술연구소(Institute for Research, Innovation and Desalination Technologies) 전문연구팀이 10월 6일(목요일 킹압둘라과학기술대학교(KAUST ;  King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) 방문했다.

담수화 산업의 지속 가능성을 달성하고 물 공급의 안전성을 높이기 위해 물 기술 개발, 경험 교환, 지식 이전 및 교육 분야의 공동 프로젝트의 후속 조치를 가능하게 하는 방식으로 양측간의 성공적인 관계를 활성화하여 양측의 성공적인 관계를 다지고 실천에 옮기자는 취지에서다.

양측은 여러 공동 프로그램과 이니셔티브를 통해 유망 담수화 기술, 멤브레인 제조 분야에서의 지속적인 연구활동, 경제적 수익을 가진 요소의 멤브레인 선정 분야에서의 연구 이해, 향후 협력기회 등을 포함한 상호 관심의 연구 파트너십활성화에 대해 논의했다.

연구혁신담수화기술연구소 컨설팅 부서의 책임자인 알리 알 사하리(Ali Al-Sahari)는 “이번 방문이 탈리아(Tahlia)가 파트너십을 구축하고 강화하여 KAUST와의 연구 노력을 통합하는 데 전념하는 역할의 틀 안에서 이루어졌다”고 설명했다.

알리 알 사하리(Ali Al-Sahari)는 “양측 간의 논의가 유망한 담수화 기술, 멤브레인의 제조 및 개선, 높은 효율과 낮은 경제적 비용을 달성하는 새로운 멤브레인 구성의 개발, 새로운 세대의 개발 및 담수화 산업의 용도에 적합한 멤브레인의 테스트를 결정하는 것과 관련된 연구 관심사를 다루었다”고 덧붙였다.

킹압둘라과학기술대학교(KAUST)의 물 연구 및 재사용 센터 소장인 요하네스 프룬펠더(Johannes Freunfelder) 박사는 “담수화 분야의 유망한 기술을 탐구하고 연구 프로젝트의 혁신을 촉진하는 데 효과적으로 기여하며 비용을 줄이고 생산성을 높이는 친환경 기술을 혁신하는 역할을 칭찬하기 위해 학계와 산업계간의 연구 노력을 배가해야 한다”고 설명했다.

방문 말미에는 연구혁신담수화기술연구소 연구팀이 대학 내 물재이용연구센터 시설과 이를 포함하는 연구소와 실험소 등을 둘러보고 연구 및 혁신기술에 대한 최신 동향을 파악했다.

탈리아(Tahlia)는 대학 및 연구기관의 관련 당국과 지역 및 국제 전략적 파트너십을 구축하고 의미 있는 연구 협력을 활성화하며 학계 및 산업 전문 지식을 통합하여 직면한 많은 문제에 대한 혁신적이고 지속 가능한 솔루션을 찾는 데 특별한 관심을 기울이고 있다는 점을 언급할 가치가 있다. 담수화 산업의 현재와 미래, 지속 가능한 발전에 효과적으로 기여하고자 한다.

Desalination and KAUST Strengthen Cooperation in Manufacturing Promising Economic Technologies

A specialized research team from the Institute for Research, Innovation and Desalination Technologies, part of the Saline Water Desalination Corporation (SWCC), visited King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) on Thursday, and the move comes in the context of strengthening the successful relationship between the two sides and activating it in a way that enables the follow-up of joint projects in the field of water technology development, exchange of experiences, knowledge transfer and training, to achieve sustainability in the desalination industry and enhance the security of water supply.

The two sides discussed the activation of research partnerships of mutual interest, which included promising desalination technologies, ongoing research activities in the field of membrane manufacturing, as well as research interests in the field of membrane selection of elements with economic return, and future cooperation opportunities, through several joint programs and initiatives.

Eng. Ali Al-Sahari, Head of the Research and Consulting Department at the Institute of Research, Innovation and Desalination Technologies, explained that the visit comes within the framework of the role to which Tahlia is committed in building and strengthening partnerships, and unifying research efforts with Saudi universities. 

He pointed out that the discussions between the two parties addressed research interests related to promising desalination technologies, the manufacture and improvement of membranes, the development of a new composition of membranes that achieve higher efficiency and lower economic cost, in addition to discussing the development of the new generation of them and determining the testing of membranes suitable for the uses of the desalination industry.

For his part, Dr. Johannes Freunfelder, Director of the Water Research and Reuse Center at the University, explained the need to redouble research efforts between the academic and industrial sectors to explore promising technologies in the field of desalination of desalinated water, praising the effective contribution of desalination in promoting innovation in research projects, and its role in innovating environmentally friendly technologies that reduce cost, increase productivity and raise efficiency.

At the end of the visit, the research team of the Institute of Research, Innovation and Desalination Technologies inspected the facilities of the Water Reuse Research Center at the university, and the laboratories and experimental stations that included it, as well as the latest developments on research and innovative technologies.

It is worth mentioning that Tahlia pays special attention to building local and international strategic partnerships with the relevant authorities from universities and research institutes, activating meaningful research cooperation, and integrating academic and industrial expertise, to find innovative and sustainable solutions to many of the challenges facing the desalination industry now and in the future, and to contribute effectively to sustainable development.
