Tedagua will develop a digital twin to optimize the management of desalination plants in their O&M contracts

This digital twin will provide differential added value for the company and our clients, mainly in three aspects: cost optimization, access to information by applying visual intelligence, and increased cybersecurity.

Data processing has become so important in the water sector in the last five years, especially in projects related to artificial intelligence, that it requires the development of an appropriate data processing strategy.



The public entity Red.es, attached to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, has granted Tedagua a grant of 700,000 euros to develop its own digital twin that allows optimizing the operation and maintenance of desalination plants. 


This optimization is mainly focused on two parameters: the reduction of energy consumption and the simulation of actions for predictive maintenance.


The project will be carried out in three phases. A first phase where all the relevant data will be collected and structured during the operation work. 


Second, a series of machine learning algorithms will be created, fed by the previously collected data. 


Lastly, these algorithms will allow the behavior of energy consumption and water production to be simulated by means of a digital model with the aim of optimizing them, as well as generating predictive simulations in the face of different scenarios.


This digital twin will provide differential added value for the company and our clients, mainly in three aspects: cost optimization, access to information by applying visual intelligence, and increased cybersecurity.


On the other hand, this project will not only help to optimize consumption and processes, but will also implement a new agile methodology based on iterative and incremental development, where the requirements and solutions evolve over time according to the needs of the project.


Data processing has never acquired such importance in the water sector as in the last five years. As new technologies have permeated sectors associated with infrastructure management and construction, it has become necessary to work in parallel on a change in work methodology, especially in projects related to artificial intelligence.


The application of technologies such as artificial intelligence requires developing an appropriate data processing strategy. These concepts require the people involved in the project to work in a different way and will provide a differential value to Tedagua in the coming years.
