[미국]서던워터, 호샴 하·폐수처리시설 개선 작업 착수 … 2천800만 파운드 규모

서던워터(Southern Water)는 사우스워터 바이패스(Southwater Bypass)에 있는 호샴(Horsham) 하·폐수처리시설을 업그레이드하기 위해 2천800만 파운드를 투자한다고 밝혔다.

기존 시설에 대한 개선에는 효율성을 향상시킬 것이며 새로운 기계, 기존 장비의 교체 및 개조, 제어 및 모니터링 시스템도 포함된다.

서던워터는 코스테인(Costain)과 MWH 트리트먼트(MWH Treatment)의 합작 회사인 CMDP와 협력해 왔다. 시설 개선은 지난 9월에 시작되어 2024년 여름에 완료될 것으로 예상된다. 또한 시설 개선은 환경 영향을 피하기 위해 기존 시설에서 수행된다.

처리된 하·폐수를 애런강(River Arun)으로 다시 안전하게 방류하는 것에 지역 내외의 고객에게 여러 가지 이점이 있다. 여기에는 수생태 생물다양성(동물, 식물 및 곰팡이)이 전반적으로 9% 증가하도록 조경 및 서식지 개선이 포함된다.

지난 몇 달 동안 서던워터와 CMDP는 다음을 포함하여 호샴과 그 주변의 지역 사회를 지원하기 위해 협력하고 있다.

- 올 겨울 에너지 비용으로 1천 파운드의 보조금을 받을 지역 커뮤니티 그룹 호샴 매터스(Horsham Matters)가 선정되었다. 서던워터는 이번 겨울에 도움이 필요한 사람들을 지원할 수 있도록 커뮤니티 센터 에너지 청구서를 지원하기 위해 지역 전체에 커뮤니티 에너지 보조금을 수여했다. 보조금은 CMDP와 제휴하여 제공되며 지역 푸드뱅크, 지원 그룹 및 어린이 프로그램과 같은 활동이 운영되는 커뮤니티 센터 및 공간을 독립적으로 운영할 수 있다.

- 서포팅 터닝 타이즈(Supporting Turning Tides)는 로페리(Roffey)에 있는 새 센터를 크리스마스까지 개소할 수 있도록 자원 봉사함으로써 노숙자를 경험하고 있는 사람들에게 지원을 제공하는 서시스 자선 단체이다.

Work starts on a £28 million pound upgrade to Horsham Wastewater treatment works

 

Southern Water is investing £28million to upgrade the existing wastewater treatment works at its Horsham site on the Southwater Bypass.

This upgrade to existing facilities will improve efficiency and will also include new machinery, the replacement and refurbishment of existing equipment, and control and monitoring systems.

Southern Water has been working with CMDP – a joint venture between Costain and MWH Treatment. Upgrades to the site started in September 2022 and are expected to be complete in summer 2024. This is taking place on our existing site, to avoid any possible impact on the environment.

There are several benefits to customers in and around the local area, ensuring the safe disposal of treated wastewater back into the River Arun for years to come. This will include landscaping and habitat enhancements that will ensure an overall 9% gain in biodiversity (animals, plants, and fungi) within the site.

There will be no visible alterations to the existing landscape that can currently be seen from the surrounding area or from the A24 either.

Local suppliers are being used where possible within a 30-mile radius of the site, along with two apprentices from the Sussex area.

Over the last couple of months, Southern Water and CMDP have been working in partnership to support the local community in and around Horsham, including:

- Horsham Matters – a local community group was selected to receive a £1,000 grant towards the cost of its energy bills this winter. Southern Water has awarded Community Energy Grants across the region to support community centres energy bills to ensure they can support those in need this winter.  The Grant is delivered in partnership with CMDP and is open to independently run community centres and spaces where activities such as local foodbanks, support groups and children’s programmes operate.

- Supporting Turning Tides (in conjunction with CMDP), a Sussex charity that provides support to people who are experiencing homelessness by volunteering to get their new centre in Roffey ready to open by Christmas.
