[인도네시아] 블랙 앤 비치, 인도네시아 광산에 해수담수화 플랜트 공급 

동자바 새로운 구리 제련소·정제소에 시간당 1천400㎥ 이상의 해수담수화 생산할 예정

PT 프리포트 인도네시아(PT Freeport Indonesia ; PTFI)는 지속가능한 개발 약속의 일환으로 동자바에 있는 마냐르 제련소의 해수담수화 플랜트( seawater desalination plant) 설계 및 관리를 위해 담수화 분야의 글로벌 리더인 블랙 앤 비치(Black & Vatch)를 선정했다.

해수담수화 플랜트는 서파푸아의 그라스버그 광산(Grasberg mine)에서 나오는 광산 농축물(정광)의 처리를 지원한다. 새로운 구리 제련소와 정제소는 가공된 광산 농축물을 더욱 정제하기 위한 인도네시아의 다운스트림(downstream) 전략을 지원하고 지역 사회와 인도네시아에 추가적인 경제적 가치를 제공한다.

PTFI의 기업 계획 및 비즈니스 전략 담당 부사장인 호르스트 디터 가르즈(Horst-Dieter Garz)는 “물 소비를 줄이는 것은 우리의 지속 가능한 개발 약속에 매우 중요하다. 대체 용수 공급을 사용하는 것은 자원 보존의 핵심이다”라면 “대체 물 기술에 대한 광범위한 경험을 바탕으로 지속적인 비즈니스 성장을 위한 포지셔닝을 지원한다”라고 말했다.

블랙 앤 비치는 공동운영협약( joint operating agreement ; JOA) 파트너인 PT비카와 공동으로 해수담수화 플랜트의 설계, 조달, 시공 및 시운전 업무를 수행한다.

블랙 앤 비치의 아시아 태평양 담당 전무이사인 나르싱 초다리(Narsingh Chaudhary)는 “광업 산업은 탈탄소화되고 지속 가능한 미래로 세계적으로 전환하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 바다에서 물에 접근하는 것은 지역 사회와 생태계를 위한 담수 자원을 절약하고 보다 지속 가능하고 탄력적이며 신뢰할 수 있는 물 미래를 보장한다. 또한 효율성을 향상시키고 비즈니스 수익성에 영향을 미치는 운영 위험과 다운타임을 줄인다”라고  말했다.

해수담수화 시설은 마냐르 제련소 프로젝트(Manyar Smelter Project)와 인접해 위치할 예정으로 구리 제련소와 귀금속 정제소를 지원하기 위해 시간당 1천400㎥ 이상의 해수담수화를 생산할 계획이다. 

연간 170만 톤의 구리 농축액(MTPA)을 처리하도록 설계된 30억 달러 규모의 마냐르 제련소는 세계 최대 규모의 단일 라인 구리처리 시설이 될 것으로 예상된다.

BHP는 칠레에 있는 미네라 에스콘디다 광산(Minera Escondida mine)에서 에스콘디다 급수 확장(Escondida Water Supply Expansion ; EWSE) 프로젝트의 설계자 겸 기록 엔지니어로 블랙 앤 비치를 선정했다. 이 프로젝트는 세계에서 가장 큰 구리광산에 100%의 담수화된 물을 공급하여 지하수의 필요성을 없앤다.

Black & Veatch to Deliver Seawater Desalination Plant in Indonesia Saving Precious Fresh Water Resources at World’s Largest Designed Single Line Copper Smelter

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has appointed Black & Veatch to design and manage the delivery of a seawater desalination plant for its Manyar Smelter in East Java, Indonesia, as part of its sustainable development commitments.

The seawater desalination plant will support the processing of mine concentrates from the Grasberg mine in West Papua. The new domestic copper smelter and refinery supports Indonesia’s downstreaming strategy to further refine the processed mine concentrates and brings additional economic value to the local community and Indonesia.

Black & Veatch, in collaboration with its joint operating agreement (JOA) partner PT Wika, will perform the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning responsibilities for the seawater desalination plant.

The seawater desalination plant will be located adjacent to the Manyar Smelter Project. It will produce over 1,400 m3/hr of desalinated seawater to support the copper smelter and precious metals refinery. 

Designed to process 1.7 million tonnes per year (MTPA) of copper concentrate, the $3 billion Manyar Smelter is anticipated to be the world’s largest designed single line copper processing facility.
