[네덜란드] 로얄 해스코닝DHV 및 WBL, 디지털 물관리 분야서 WEX 어워드 수상

로얄 해스코닝DHV(Royal HaskoningDHV)는 네덜란드 수도 당국 WBL과 협력해 WBL 하수 운송 시스템의 디지털 트윈(Digital Twin)을 구축해 WEX(Water & Energy Exchange 2023) 컨퍼런스에서 디지털 물관리 혁신상을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 로얄 해스코닝DHV의 디지털 트윈은 'Twinn Aquasuite 소프트웨어'를 기반으로 개발됐으며, 깨끗한 물을 제공하고 임박한 고장(impending failures)을 방지하기 위해 거의 1천 개의 펌프장을 모니터링하고 있다.

WEX 어워드는 물산업 내 동급 최고의 디지털 인프라 프로젝트 및 AI 이니셔티브에게 수여된다.

WBL의 하수 운송 시스템의 디지털 트윈은 문제 감지 및 예측 유지 관리를 위해 빅 데이터 플랫폼과 기계 학습 모델을 사용한다. Twinn Aquasuite 애플리케이션을 기반으로 한 조기 감지를 통해 운영자는 임박한 고장을 방지하고 성능을 개선하며 누수를 줄이기 위한 조치와 깨끗한 물을 제공할 수 있다.

WBL(Waterschapsbedrijf Limburg)는 50만 가구와 3만 대 기업에게 깨끗한 물을 제공하기 위해 하수를 처리하고 있다. 로얄 해스코닝DHV에 의해 구현된 디지털 트윈은 네덜란드 수도 당국이 17개의 하수처리시설, 5개의 슬러지 탈수 시설, 150개의 하수도 및 800개의 시 펌프장을 모니터링하는 데 도움이 된다.

레온 베르하겐(Léon Verhaegen) WBL의 ICT 및 혁신 수석 프로젝트 리더는 "앞으로 WBL은 워터 체인이 전체적으로 어떻게 작동하는지에 대한 실질적인 통찰력을 얻기 위해 이 솔루션을 3천 개의 시 수도국으로 확장할 계획이다"라고 말했다.

Twinn Aquasuite 소프트웨어는 기계 학습을 사용해 펌프 성능이 저하되기 시작하거나 파이프의 압력이 감소하여 막힘 위험이 있음을 초기 단계에서 감지한다. 이후 디지털 트윈은 이러한 경고를 중앙 제어실에 전달하고, 운영자는 임박한 고장를 방지하기 위한 조치를 취한다.

WEX 글로벌 어워드는 지구와 미래 자원을 보호하는 데 필요한 물부문의 순환 경제 전략의 모범 사례를 보여준다. 로얄 해스코닝DHV와 WBL 간의 프로젝트는 디지털과 물리적 세계 간의 연결성을 입증하고 기술의 혁신적 적용에서 우수성을 보여주면서 사회적 및 경제적 과제를 지원했다. 수상자는 지난 3월 28일 WEX 갈라 디너 및 혁신 시상식에서 발표됐다.

Royal HaskoningDHV and WBL win WEX award in digitalised water management

 

Royal HaskoningDHV, in partnership with Dutch water authority WBL, won an Innovation award in Digitalised Water Management at the Water & Energy Exchange 2023 (WEX) conference for the digital twin of WBL’s wastewater transport system. Digital twin based on Twinn Aquasuite software oversees nearly a thousand pumping stations to provide clean water and prevent impending failures. WEX award recognises best-in-class digital infrastructure projects and AI initiatives within the water industry.

The digital twin of WBL`s wastewater transport system uses a big data platform and machine learning models for problem detection and predictive maintenance. This early detection based onTwinn Aquasuite application allows operators to take action to prevent the impending failures, improve performance and reduce leakages providing essential clean water.

The Waterschapsbedrijf Limburg (WBL) disposes wastewater to provide essential clean water for 500,000 households and 30,000 companies in the province of Limburg. The digital twin implemented by Royal HaskoningDHV helps the Dutch water authority to oversee 17 sewage treatment plants, 5 sludge dewatering plants, 150 sewage and 800 municipal pumping stations.

“In the future, WBL plans to extend this solution to 3,000 municipal water stations to gain real insight into how the water chain works as a whole”, said Léon Verhaegen, Senior Project Leader of ICT and Innovation at WBL.

“We are happy to make a positive impact on society, helping to solve some of the most pressing challenges in water management,” said Melchior Schenk, Twinn Aquasuite Business Development Director. “This is a testament to Royal HaskoningDHV`s expertise in the water treatment industry and our innovative thinking in the field of digitalised water management.”

Twinn Aquasuite software uses machine learning to detect at a very early stage that pumps are beginning to deteriorate or that the pressure in pipes is reducing, indicating a danger of a blockage. The digital twin then relays these warnings to the central control room, whereupon the operators take action to prevent the impending failures.

The WEX Global Awards showcase the best examples of circular economy strategies in the water sector, which are necessary to protect the planet and our future resources. The project between Royal HaskoningDHV and WBL demonstrated the connectivity between digital and physical world and showed excellence in the innovative application of technology, while supporting social and economic challenges. The winners were announced at the WEX Gala Dinner and Innovation awards ceremony on March 28, 2023.
