[영국] 템즈워터, 새 회장에 아드리안 몬태규 경 선임

변호사 겸 사업가로 앵글리안워터그룹·아비바·브리티시 에너지 회장 역임

템즈 워터 유틸리티 파이낸스(Thames Water Utilities Finance plc)는 템즈워터(Tames Water Utilities Limited ; Thames Water)의 이사 겸 회장으로 변호사 겸 사업가인 에이드리안 몬태규(Adrian Montague) 경을 임명했다고 6월 30일 발표했다.

에이드리안 몬태규(Adrian Montague) 경은 템즈워터가 그의 후임자를 임명하면 사임할 의사를 올해 4월에 발표한 이안 마샨트(Ian Marchant) 회장의 뒤를 이어 7월 10일 템즈워터 회장에 취임한다.

에이드리안 몬태규는 현재 캐던트 가스 유한회사(Cadent Gas Limited)와 포터브룩 홀딩스 유한회사(Porterbrook Holdings Limited)의 회장이다. 그는 2014년부터 맨체스터 공항 그룹의 회장을 맡고 있지만, 9년간의 근무를 마치고 오는 9월에 은퇴할 예정이다. 그는 이전에 앵글리안 워터 그룹(Anglian Water Group Limited), 아비바(Aviva plc), 브리티시 에너지(British Energy plc) 및 3i Group plc를 포함한 여러 회장직을 역임했다.

에이드리안 몬태규 경은 개인 소유기업과 상장기업 모두에서 경험이 풍부한 인물이다. 그는 변호사, 은행가, 대형 인프라 사업 및 투자자의 회장으로 매우 강력한 배경을 가지고 있으며,  2010년부터 2015년까지 5년 동안 물 부문에서 앵글리안 워터(Anglian Water)의 회장을 역임한 바 있다. 2003년부터 2010년까지 그는 브리티시 에너지(British Energy)의 회장으로 재직하며 회사의 구조조정, 복구 및 프랑스 국영전력회사인 EdF로의 최종 매각을 이끌었다.

퇴임하는 템즈워터의 이안 마샨트(Ian Marchant) 회장은 “저는 제 후임으로 에이드리안 몬태규 경에게 의장직을 물려주게 되어 기쁘다. 인프라 사업과 유틸리티 분야, 특히 물산업에 대한 그의 폭넓은 경험과 깊은 지식은 그가 저의 뒤를 이어 템즈워터 보드(Thames Water Board)를 이끌 훌륭한 위치에 서 있다. 에이드리안은 또한 유틸리티 및 물 부문의 영국 규제 프레임워크에 대한 폭넓은 경험을 가지고 있다”고 말했다.

에이드리안 몬태규 경은 다“ 나는 물산업에서 나의 이전 역할을 매우 즐겼고 현재 직면하고 있는 도전들을 고려할 때 중요한 시기에 그 분야에 다시 합류하게 되어 기쁘다. 나는 이제 이사회와 경영진, 그리고 템즈워터의 규제 당국과 협력하여 회사의 회생계획(turnaround plan)과 향후 자금 조달 요구에 집중할 수 있기를 기대하고 있다”고 말했다.

템즈워터 이사회는 “이안 마샨트(Ian Marchant) 회장이 물산업의 도전적인 시기를 통해 템즈워터를 지도하는 데 보여준 리더십에 감사와 감사를 표하고 싶다. 업계 리더로서 이안은 템즈워터의 미래에 기여하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 해 왔으며 앞으로 그의 모든 성공을 기원한다”고 말했다.

Thames Water appoints new Chairman

 

Thames Water Utilities Finance plc announces the appointment of Sir Adrian Montague as Director and Chairman of Thames Water Utilities Limited (“Thames Water” or the “Company”). 

Sir Adrian will join the Board of Thames Water on 10 July 2023 succeeding Ian Marchant who announced in April this year his intention to step down once the Company had appointed his successor. 

Sir Adrian Montague is currently Chairman of Cadent Gas Limited, and Porterbrook Holdings Limited. He has been Chair of Manchester Airports Group since 2014, but is retiring from that position in September 2023 on completion of 9 years’ service. He has previously held a number of Chairman roles including Anglian Water Group Limited, Aviva plc, British Energy plc and 3i Group plc. 

Sir Adrian is a highly experienced Chair both of privately owned businesses and listed companies. He has a very strong background as a lawyer, banker and Chair of large infrastructure businesses and investors and understands the water sector having been Chair of Anglian Water for five years between 2010 and 2015. From 2003 to 2010 he was Chair of British Energy, leading that company’s restructuring, recovery and eventual sale to EdF.

Ian Marchant, outgoing Chairman of Thames Water said: “I am delighted to be handing the Chair reins to Adrian as my successor. Adrian’s breadth of experience and deep knowledge of infrastructure businesses and the utilities sector, particularly the water industry stand him in an excellent position to succeed me and lead the Thames Water Board.  Adrian also has extensive experience in the UK regulatory framework of the utilities and water sector.”

Sir Adrian Montague said: “It is a privilege to join the Board of Thames Water and follow Ian as Chairman. I very much enjoyed my previous role in the water industry and am pleased to be re-joining the sector at a critical time given the challenges it currently faces. I now look forward to working with the Board and Executive team and with Thames Water’s regulators, to focus on the Company’s turnaround plan and its future financing needs.”
