[영국] 아이브앱스, 영국 물회사가 탄소중립 목표 달성하도록 지원

영국 물 회사들은 영국 정부의 법적 구속력이 있는 2050년보다 20년 앞선 2030년까지 고객들에게 탄소중립(Net Zero) 물을 공급하겠다는 목표를 세웠다. 아이브앱스(iVapps)는 물 회사의 공급업체로서 물 회사가 그들의 목표를 달성할 수 있도록 지원한다고 밝혔다.

이를 위해 아이브앱스는 툰리 엔지니어링(Tunley Engineering)과 협력하여 수질 모니터링 시스템과 격리 지점 생성 해결책에 대한 전체 수명 주기 분석을 수행했다. 툰리는 분석결과 “수도 사업 네크워에 아이브앱스 제품을 사용하면 물 기업이 탄소 중립(Net Zero)을 달성하는 데 상당한 이점이 있다”고 말했다.

아이브앱스 기계 및 디지털 해결책을 사용하면 수도 시스템 운영자와 파이프라인 업계가 원격 대시보드를 통해 자산을 모니터링할 수 있으므로 데이터 로거(Data Loggers) 위로 이동할 필요가 없다. 또 시스템을 모니터링하는 스마트 카트리지를 제거하고, 밸브 카트리지로 교체할 때 제어 또는 격리 지점을 만들 수 있으므로 새 게이트 밸브를 설치할 필요가 없다.

아이브앱스의 기술은 예측 모델링 및 유지 보수를 통해 누출을 감지 및 줄이고, 에너지 요구 사항을 줄이기 위해 만들어졌다.

툰리(Tunley)가 시행한 분석에서 아이브앱스 포탈 및 스마트 & 밸브 카트리지는 다양한 기준에서 물 산업에서 사용되는 표준 게이트 밸브 및 데이터 로거와 비교됐다.

결과에 따르면 표준 게이트 밸브가 장착된 데이터 로거를 사용하면 아이브스 포 및 밸브 카트리지를 사용할 때보다 더 많은 온실가스(GHG)가 방출된다. 또한 아이브스의 포털과 스마트 카트리지 제품 수명이 표준 밸브보다 길기 때문에 전체적으로 수명기간 동안 온실가스 배출량이 현저히 낮은 것으로 나타났다.

스마트 카트리지가 제공하는 원격 측정을 사용하면 전력 회사가 데이터 로거를 설치하고 네트워크 평가를 위해 현장을 방문할 필요가 없다. 또 스마트 카트리지의 수명도 데이터 로거의 수명을 훨씬 넘어선다.

또한 원격 측정을 통해 생산동안 물 손실과 배출을 최소화하는 데 도움이 되는 데이터를 제공함으로써 상당한 탄소 절감 효과를 얻을 수 있다.

누수로 인해 손실 및 낭비되는 유실수 및 폐수의 펌핑 및 분배

툰리는 “포탈과 스마트 카트리지의 조합은 데이터 로거를 단독으로 사용할 때보다 각 시스템당 100년 동안 최대 1.83tCO2e의 온실가스 배출량을 줄일 수 있고, 표준 게이트 밸브와 데이터 로거를 함께 사용했을 때 보다 시스템당 100년 동안 5.68t CO2e 온실가스 배출량을 줄일 수 있었다"며 "기간 동안 4.25tCO2e의 온실가스를 배출하는 데이터 로거의 필요성이 없어졌다'고 말했다.

간단히 말해 100년 동안 50개의 밸브가 필요하다고 가정하면, 50개의 포탈&밸브 카트리지와 50개의 포탈&스마트 카트리지를 함께 사용하면 50개의 표준 게이트 밸브와 데이터 로거를 함께 사용하는 것보다 73.63tCO2e와 108.28tCO2e의 온실가스 배출량을 절약할 수 있다. 이는 100년 동안 평균 96.96tCO2e의 온실가스를 절약 한 것과 같다.

절감된 온실가스 배출량은 다음과 같다.

일반적인 디젤 차량으로 23만3천180마일을 주행할 수 있다.

4만6천216kg의 석탄을 태울 수 있다.

1천1백6만 대의 스마트폰을 충전할 수있다.

1년 동안 108에이커의(Acres) 숲에서 흡수할 수 있는 양.

10년 동안 자란 1천5백4 그루의 나무에서 흡수할 수 있는 양.

Helping Utilities Meet Their Net Zero Targets

 

UK water companies have set themselves an ambitious target of deliver a net zero water supply for customers by 2030 – 20 years ahead of the UK Government’s legally binding target of 2050*. As a supplier to those water companies, iVapps is pledging to assist the companies achieve their goals.

To that end, iVapps has worked with Tunley Engineering to carry out a whole life-cycle analysis of their water monitoring system and isolation point creation solution. Following their analysis Tunley stated ‘Incorporating iVapps products in water utility networks provides a substantial advantage in facilitating water utility companies’ transition towards Carbon Neutrality (Net Zero).’

iVapps mechanical and digital solution enables water system operators, and other pipeline industries to monitor their assets via a remote dashboard mitigating the need to travel to the location of data loggers. The SMART cartridge that monitors the systems, can also be removed and replaced with valve cartridge to create control or isolation points when required, removing the need to install new gate valves.

iVapps’ technology was created to detect and reduce leaks through predictive modelling and maintenance and reduce energy requirements.

In the Tunley analysis, the iVapps PORTAL and SMART & VALVE cartridge were compared to a standard gate valve and data logger as used in the water industry under various scenarios.

Results found the use of a data logger with a standard gate valve released more GHG emissions than that from the iVapps PORTAL and VALVE cartridge. Furthermore, the portal and SMART cartridge were found to have significantly lower emissions throughout its life as iVapps products have a longer lifetime than a standard valve.

The telemetry data provided by the SMART Cartridge negates the necessity for utility companies to physically visit a site to install a data logger and conduct network assessments. The lifespan of the SMART Cartridge also far exceeds that of a Data Logger.

There are also significant carbon savings resulting from the telemetry providing data which helps minimise water loss – emissions associated with production,

pumping and distribution of lost and wasted water from leaks.

Tunley stated **‘The PORTAL and  SMART cartridge combination, can result in carbon emissions savings of up to 1.83 tCO2e over a 100-year period per system compared to a data logger alone. OR 5.68 tCO2e over a 100-year period per system when compared to a Standard Gate Valve + Data Logger. The need for a datalogger is eliminated, which emits 4.25 tCO2e over its lifetime, thus eliminating 4.25 tCO2e per data logger purchased.’

Put simply, assuming 50 valves are required over a 100-year period. The use of 50 PORTAL & VALVE cartridges combined with 50 PORTAL & SMART cartridges would save between 73.63 tCO2e and 108.28 tCO2e instead of using 50 Standard Gate valve + Data Logger. This is estimated to be a mean saving of 90.96 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents over a 100-year period.

This amount of GHG emissions saved is equal to that from:

Driving 233,180 miles in an average diesel vehicle.

Burning 46,216 kg of coal.

Charging 11.06 million smartphones

Sequestered by 108 acres of forest in a year.

Sequestered by 1,504 tree sampling that are grown for 10 years.
