[영국] 서던워터, 웨스트 서식스서 140만파운드 규모 하·폐수처리 프로젝트 추진

서던워터(Southern Water)는 웨스트 서식스(West Sussex)에서 하·폐수 처리 작업의 용량과 효율을 개선하기 위한 하·폐수처리 프로젝트 추진한다고 밝혔다. 이 프로젝트는 지역 하천의 수질을 제고하고, 우수범람을 줄이고, 하·폐수처리 용량을 늘릴 것이다.

서던워터는 헨필드(Henfield) 현장에서 140만 파운드의 프로젝트를 통해 더 많은 하·폐수를 처리하고 추가적인 빗물 저장을 제공해 집중호우에 대비한다.

이번 프로젝트는 서던워터가 2020년과 2025년 사이에 성능을 개선하기 위해 20억 파운드를 투자의 일환으로 추진되며 여기에는 다음이 포함된다.

- 러그윅 하·폐수처리시설에 400만 파운드.

- 라반트 습지 조성 프로젝트 추진

- 호스햄 하·폐수처리시설 개선 위한 2천800만 파운드.

로빈 우드워드(Robin Woodward) 서던워터 프로젝트 매니저는 "서던워터는 서비스하는 영역에서 우리의 소중한 환경을 보호하고 개선하는 것이 얼마나 중요한지 알고 있다. 이는 웨스트 서식스의 여러 계획 중 하나일 뿐이며, 이 현장의 용량과 효율성에 큰 영향을 미칠 것"이라고 말했다.

West Sussex £1.4m wastewater treatment project underway

 

A new scheme to improve the capacity and efficiency of a West Sussex wastewater treatment works will boost local river water quality, reduce storm overflows and keep up with population growth. 

The £1.4 million project at our Henfield site will allow the works to treat more wastewater and provide extra storm water storage so more flows can remain on site during heavy and sustained rainfall before being fully treated.  

This will significantly reduce the use of storm overflows into the local environment, which happens to avoid the flooding of communities.  

This is the latest in a series of improvement schemes in West Sussex, as part of Southern Water’s investment of £2 billion between 2020 and 2025 to improve performance. These include:

spending £4m at Rudgwick Wastewater Treatment Works

creation of a wetlands project in Lavant

£28m upgrade of Horsham Wastewater Treatment Works. 

Project Manager for Southern Water, Robin Woodward, said:  

“We know how important it is to protect and enhance our precious environment across the areas we serve. This is just one of several schemes in West Sussex, and it will have a big impact on the capacity and efficiency of this site.” 

This work is being carried out by GTb which is a joint venture between Galliford Try Environment and Binnies UK Ltd. 

Pat Leonard, Project Manager for GTb, added: “We are pleased to be working collaboratively with Southern Water on this project to improve the River Adur’s water quality and meet Environment Agency targets.” 

The work is expected to take around a year to complete, and during the scheme there will be increased vehicle movements to the site. We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this important work may cause to those living in the area.
