마운틴 리저널 워터, 유타주 수처리 시설에 재생 에너지 공급

에너지 효율과 재생 에너지를 전문으로 하는 선도적인 청정기술 통합업체인 아메레스코(Ameresco)는 29일(현지시간) 마운틴 리저널 워터 스페셜 서비스 디스트릭트(Mountain Regional Water Special Service District)와 부유식 태양광 발전 부지 설계 및 설치 계약을 체결했다고 발표했다. 마운틴 리저널 워터 스페셜 서비스 디스트릭트는 미국 유타 주 파크시티의 스나이더빌 분지 지역에 식수를 공급하는 상수도 공공기관이다. 

이 계약은 록키 마운틴 파워(Rocky Mountain Power)의 블루 스카이(Blue Sky) 프로그램으로부터 시그널 힐(Signal Hill) 수처리 공장을 위한 40만 달러의 보조금을 받기 전에 체결된다. 

아메레스코의 프로젝트는 589.7 킬로와트 DC 용량 부유식 태양 전지판을 배치해 설계된다. 이 시스템은 계량기 뒤에 로키 마운틴 파워와 통합돼 처리장에 직접 전기를 공급할 수 있으며, 설치될 시 연간 384 메트릭톤의 이산화탄소 배출량을 줄이도록 설계됐으며, 이는 연간 4만3천211 갤런의 휘발유를 절약하거나 43만160 파운드의 석탄 연소를 방지하는 것과 같은 효과를 낸다.

로키 마운틴 파워의 블루 스카이 프로그램은 2023년에 설계된 12개 지역사회 기반 재생 에너지 프로젝트 중 하나로, 록키 마운틴 파워 고객에게 에너지 사용의 일부 혹은 전부를 재생 에너지와 일치할 수 있는 옵션을 제공해 탄소 발자국을 줄이고 신재생 에너지에 대한 수요를 촉진하는 프로그램이다.

2006년 이후 블루 스카이의 5만6천 명의 참가자는 유타, 아이다호, 와이오밍 지역사회에서 200개 이상의 새로운 지역사회 기반 재생 에너지 프로젝트에 자금을 지원했다. 이 시스템은 태양열, 풍력, 지열 및 기타 형태의 재생 에너지를 포함한다.

이 프로젝트는 그리드에서 소비되는 에너지의 92%를 상쇄하고 지구의 에너지 비용을 80%까지 절감하도록 설계됐다. 새로운 부유식 태양열 어레이 시스템은 연간 시간당 88만7천712 킬로와트의 태양 에너지를 생산해 지역 전력 공급에 크게 기여할 것이다.

크리스 브라운(Chris Braun) 마운틴 리저널 워터 기술 부문 책임자는 "이 혁신적인 부유식 태양광 설치는 아직 개발되지 않은 자원을 활용할 수 있다"며 "이것은 지역사회와 환경을 책임지고 '넷 제로(Net-Zero)' 에너지 목표에 도달하기 위한 한걸음"이라고 밝혔다.

한편, 공사는 2024년 6월에 착공해 2024년 9월 완공될 예정이다.

Mountain Regional Water Receives Rocky Mountain Power Blue Sky Grant to Install Floating Solar Technology and Selects Ameresco as Design-Build Partner

 

Mountain Regional Water’s floating solar array project is designed to power a water treatment facility in Park City, Utah with locally generated renewable energy.

FRAMINGHAM, MA AND PARK CITY, UTAH – AUGUST 29, 2023 – Mountain Regional Water Special Service District, a special service district of the state of Utah that serves drinking water to the Snyderville Basin area of Park City, Utah, has awarded Ameresco, Inc., (NYSE: AMRC), a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, a contract to design and install a floating solar photovoltaic array site. This award precedes the district’s selection for a grant for $400,000 from Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program for the district’s Signal Hill Water Treatment Plant. The array will be owned by the district and will be placed on the treatment plant’s holding pond and provide electricity to power the water treatment plant.

Ameresco’s project design involves the deployment of a 589.7-kilowatt, DC capacity floating solar array. The system will be integrated behind the meter with the Rocky Mountain Power utility, allowing it to serve electricity directly to the treatment plant. Once installed, the floating solar array system is designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 384 metric tons annually, which is equivalent to saving 43,211 gallons of gasoline per year or preventing the burning of 430,160 pounds of coal.

Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program awarded this project to the Mountain Regional Water Service District as one of a dozen community-based renewable energy projects awarded in 2023. Blue Sky is an opt-in program that gives Rocky Mountain Power customers the option to match all or part of their energy use with renewable energy, reducing their carbon footprints and driving demand for new renewable energy in the West. Since 2006, Blue Sky’s 56,000 participants have helped fund over 200 new, community-based renewable energy projects in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming communities. The systems include solar, wind, geothermal and other forms of renewable energy.

The completion of this project is designed to offset 92% of the energy consumed from the grid and reduce the district’s energy costs by 80%. The new floating solar array system will also produce 887,712 kilowatt-hours of solar energy annually, significantly contributing to the local power supply.
