[미국] EPA 지역 6, 소비자 물보존 돕는 워터센스 파트너 선정

워터센스 파트너, 2006년부터 지역사회 물 7조5천억 갤런·8천800억kwh·1천710억달러 비용 절감 도와

미국 환경보호청(EPA)은 네바다주 라스베이거스에서 열린 워터 스마트 이노베이션(WaterSmart Innovations) 컨퍼런스에서 워터센스(WaterSense) 및 물 효율성을 지원한 47개 워터센스 파트너에게 상을 수여했다고 밝혔다.

올해의 수상자는 혁신적이며 물 효율적인 제품을 만들고, 일반적인 신축 건축물보다 30% 적은 물을 사용하여 집을 짓고, 소비자가 워터센스 라벨을 붙인 제품을 이용할 수 있도록 하고, 물절약 행동과 비품(fixtures)을 장려하는 프로그램을 구현했다.

EPA가 후원하는 파트너십 프로그램인 워터센스는 물 효율적인 제품을 인증하는 라벨로, 미국인들에게 물 효율적인 제품, 주택 및 서비스를 통해 물을 덜 사용할 수 있는 간단한 방법을 제공함으로써 국가 물공급의 미래를 보호하는 것이 목적이다.

워터센스 라벨이 붙은 제품은 물을 20% 적게 사용하고 표준 모델과 같거나 더 나은 성능을 발휘한다. 이 프로그램은 2006년에 시작되었으며 4만2천 개 이상의 라벨이 붙은 변기, 수도꼭지, 수도꼭지 부속품, 샤워헤드, 관개 컨트롤러, 스프레이 스프링클러 본체가 있다.

라디카 폭스(Radhika Fox) EPA수자원 부국장은 "올해의 워터센스 상 수상자들은 미국 가정이 귀중한 수자원을 보존하면서 수도 요금을 절약하도록 돕고 있다"면서 "기후 스트레스가 전국의 지역 사회에 계속 영향을 미치고 있기 때문에 제조업체, 주택 건축업자 및 가족과 협력하여 물 효율성을 우선시하는 것은 다음 세대를 위해 물을 보호하는 데 필수적이다"라고 말했다.

미국인들은 물과 에너지 비용을 낮추고 물절약에 도움이 되기 때문에 배관 설비, 주택, 관개 제품 및 프로그램에서 워터센스 라벨을 찾고 있다. 워터센스 제품을 구입하는 미국인들은 2006년 프로그램이 시작된 이후 7조5천억 갤런 이상의 물과 8천800억 킬로와트시 이상의 에너지, 1천710억 달러의 물 및 에너지 요금을 절약했다.

워터센스 파트너 상은 유틸리티, 제조업체, 건설업체, 소매업체 및 기타 워터센스 라벨이 부착된 제품을 홍보, 생산 및 판매하는 조직, 워터센스 라벨이 부착된 집을 건설하고 워터센스 라벨이 부착된 인증 프로그램을 운영하는 조직 등이 수상했다.

EPA Region 6 Honors WaterSense Partners for Helping Consumers Conserve Water

Since 2006, WaterSense partners helped communities save more than 7.5 trillion gallons of water, 880 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, and $171 billion on utilities.

 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded 47 WaterSense partners for their support of WaterSense and water efficiency at the WaterSmart Innovations conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s award winners made innovative water-efficient products, built homes using 30% less water than typical new construction, made WaterSense labeled products accessible to consumers, and implemented programs to promote water-saving behaviors and fixtures.

"This year's WaterSense Award Winners are helping American families save money on their water bills while conserving our precious water resources," said EPA Assistant Administrator for Water Radhika Fox. "As climate stress continues to affect communities across the country, prioritizing water efficiency in partnership with manufacturers, homebuilders and families is essential to protecting our water for generations to come."

People look for the WaterSense label on plumbing fixtures, homes, and irrigation products and programs, because it means lower water and energy costs and helps save water. People who buy WaterSense products have saved more than 7.5 trillion gallons of water, 880 billion kilowatt-hours of energy, and $171 billion in water and energy bills since the program started in 2006.  

Award winners include utilities, manufacturers, builders, a retailer, and other organizations that promote, produce, and sell WaterSense labeled products; build WaterSense labeled homes; and operate WaterSense labeled certification programs.

Background

WaterSense, a partnership program sponsored by the EPA, is both a label for water-efficient products and a resource for helping consumers and businesses save water. WaterSense seeks to protect the future of the nation’s water supply by offering Americans a simple way to use less water with water-efficient products, homes, and services. WaterSense labeled products are independently certified to use 20% less water and perform as well or better than standard models. The program was launched in 2006, and there are more than 42,000 labeled toilets, faucets/faucet accessories, showerheads, irrigation controllers, and spray sprinkler bodies.
