ITT의 지속 가능성 목표는 △2026년 말까지 스코프(Scope) 1 및 2 온실가스(GHG) 배출량 10% 감축(2021년 기준 대비) △보다 다양하고 포용적인 직장 조성하는 다양성·형평성·포용성 목표 등을 포함한다. 2022년 위 목표를 향한 회사의 진전은 온실가스 배출량을 7% 감소하고 해당 연도에 다양한 미국 공급업체와의 지출을 10% 증가하는 것으로 강조된다.

회사의 2022년 지속 가능성 현황은 △기록 가능한 안전사고를 32% 감소해 부상 빈도율 1(IFR) 0.55로 향상 △전 세계 현장의 약 60%에서 기록 가능한 안전사고 발생하지 않음 △물 소비량 7% 감소 및 재활용 재료 17% 이상 증가 등으로 확인됐다. 

루카 사비(Luca Savi) ITT의 최고 경영자이자 사장은 "지난 보고서를 발표한 이후로 우리는 모든 직원을 위해 더 안전하고 포괄적이며 에너지 효율적인 일터를 만들어왔다"며 "우리의 안전 지표는 사고를 예방하기 위해 배우고 사전에 대비하도록 행동한다는 것을 보여준다"고 말했다.

사비 사장은 이어 "안티 플레어링 및 탄소 포집 프로젝트(Anti-flaring and Carbon Capture Projects)에 보르네만 트윈 나사 펌프(Twin-screw Pumps)를 배치하고 유로-7 준수 제동 기술을 만드는 등 고객의 가장 큰 지속 가능성 관련 문제를 해결하는 데 도움이 되는 친환경 솔루션을 지속적으로 혁신하고 개발해 왔다"고 덧붙였다.

앞서 ITT는 전 세계 8개 제조 현장에 걸쳐 약 2만 개의 태양광 패널을 설치하는 등 그린에너지 프로젝트를 위해 2천500만 달러 규모의 투자를 발표한 바 있다. 이를 완공 시 ITT의 연간 6천톤 이상의 탄소 배출량이 감소될 것으로 예상된다.

사비 사장은 또 "ITT에서 지속 가능성은 직원과 고객, 지역사회를 위해 최선을 다하는 동시에 비즈니스 관행을 개선하고 성장을 가속화하는 방법"이라며 "자체 운영을 강화하고 폐기물을 줄여 에너지 효율을 개선하는 친환경적이고 지속가능한 기술을 개발하고자 노력하고 있다"고 설명했다.

그는 이어 "이러한 투자의 혜택을 이미 보기 시작했지만, 우리는 지속가능한 여정의 시작 단계에 있다는 것을 이미 알고 있다"며 "앞으로 펼쳐질 일이 기대된다"고 강조했다.

ITT의 2023 지속 가능성 업데이트는 모든 글로벌 ITT 위치에 대한 2022년 측정 지표를 통합한다. 지속가능회계기준위원회(SASB)와 기후변화재무정보공개협의체(TCFD)가 제공하는 지침과 측정 프레임워크 등 여러 지침은 이 보고서의 범위를 확고히 했다.

ITT Releases 2023 Sustainability Update; Announces Progress Towards Emissions Reduction and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Targets

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 27, 2023 -- ITT Inc. (NYSE: ITT) today released its 2023 Sustainability Update, which details the company's progress towards the emissions reduction and diversity, equity and inclusion targets it established in November 2022.

"Since publishing our last report, we've continued to build a safer, more inclusive and more energy-efficient workplace for all employees. Our safety metrics show that we keep on learning  and being proactive in preventing incidents. We've also continued to innovate and develop green solutions to help solve our customers' biggest sustainability challenges, including the deployment of our Bornemann twin-screw pumps on anti-flaring and carbon capture projects and the creation of Euro-7-compliant braking technology," said Luca Savi, Chief Executive Officer and President of ITT.

ITT's sustainability targets include reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 10% by the end of 2026 (against a 2021 baseline) and diversity, equity and inclusion goals that foster a more diverse and inclusive workplace. The company's progress towards those targets in 2022 is highlighted by a 7% reduction in GHG emissions and a 10% increase in spending with diverse U.S. suppliers for the year.

Other highlights from the company's 2022 sustainability progress include:

- 32% reduction in recordable safety incidents, leading to an improved Injury Frequency Rate (IFR)1 of 0.55

- Nearly 60% of sites globally had zero recordable safety incidents

- 7% reduction in water consumption and more than 17% increase in recycled materials

The company also previously announced a $25 million, multi-year investment for green energy projects, including the installation of approximately 20,000 solar panels across eight manufacturing sites globally, which is expected to reduce ITT's emissions by more than six thousand tons of Co2 per year once completed.
