미국 환경보호청(EPA)이 오랫동안 기다려온 '납 및 구리 규칙 개선(Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, LCRI)'을 발표한 것에 대해 120워터(120 Water)는 공중보건 보호를 선진화하고 납수도관 교체를 가속화하겠다는 의지를 재확인했다고 밝혔다.

120워터는 미국 전역의 음용수 전문가들이 납 저감 프로그램을 실행하기 위해 사용하는 소프트웨어 및 솔루션의 선두적인 공급업체이다. 2016년에 설립된 120워터는 현재 5천 개 이상의 수계와 11개의 주정부 기관에 서비스를 제공하고 있으며 피츠버그(Pittsburgh), 덴버(Denver), 뉴어크(Newark) 및 프로비덴스(Providence)에서 가장 중요한 납 저감 프로그램 중 일부를 수행했다. 120워터는 미국에서 가장 복잡한 프로그램 중 일부를 수행한 것 외에도 미국의 가장 취약한 지역사회에 서비스를 제공하는 전국지방상수도협회(National Rural Water Association)의 파트너이다.

LCRI는 식별된 납수도관에 대한 10년 의무 교체 요건, 알려지지 않은 납수도관에 대한 지속적인 검증, 조치 수준을 10ppb로 낮추는 등 기존 납 및 구리 규칙 개정에 대한 중요한 개선 사항을 도입하고 있다. LCRI가 법제화되기 전에 아직 입법 절차를 거치지 않았으며, 2024년 10월 이전에 시행될 예정인 구체적인 절차가 뒤따를 것이라는 점에 주목할 필요가 있다.

In response to the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement of the long-anticipated Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI), 120Water proudly reaffirms its commitment to advancing public health protections and accelerating the replacement of lead pipes.

The LCRI introduces significant enhancements to the existing Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, including a mandatory 10-year replacement requirement for identified lead service lines, continuous verification of unknown service lines, and a lowered action level exceedance to 10ppb. It is crucial to note that the LCRI is yet to undergo the legislative process before becoming law, and specific steps will be followed, with the anticipated effective date before October 2024.
