[미국] 일리노이주 EPA, 공공 정수처리장 에너지 효율 개선 위한 1차 자금 지원 발표

깨끗하고 신뢰할 수 있는 식수 제공 위해 에너지 효율성 개선에 투자

일리노이 환경 보호청(Illinois Environmental Protection Agency)은 정수처리장(DWTP)이라고 불리는 공공 수도시설(PWS)의 에너지 효율화 프로젝트 개발 및 완료에 사용할 수 있는 75만 달러 규모의 보조금 지원을 발표했다.

일리노이주 공공 소유 수도시설은 보조금 프로그램을 통해 미국 에너지부의 「인프라 투자 및 고용법(Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, IIJA)」 기금을 투자 받을 수 있다. 보조금을 통해 지자체는 이전 에너지 감사에서 확인된 수도 장비 에너지 효율을 개선할 수 있으며, 경우에 따라 일리노이 EPA 에너지부(Illinois EPA Office of Energy)에서 무료로 제공하는 감사에서 확인된 수도 장비로 에너지 효율을 개선할 수 있다.

기금이 지원되는 프로젝트는 수처리 작업으로 소비된 에너지의 양을 줄여 에너지 비용을 절감할 것이다. 보조금 신청은 종합적인 성과 기반의 검토를 거치게 된다. 채점 요소에는 비용 효율성, 에너지 비용 영향 절감, 에너지 요금 및 환경 정의 관련 프로젝트가 포함된다.

존 킴(John J. Kim) 일리노이주 EPA 청장은 "일리노이 EPA는 다행스럽게도 일리노이주의 하수처리시설에 유사한 에너지 효율 보조금을 지원해왔고, 공공 정수처리장에 대한 자금 지원을 확대할 수 있게 돼 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "일리노이 주민에게 깨끗하고 신뢰할 수 있는 식수를 제공하는 시스템의 에너지 효율성 개선을 위해 투자하기를 기대한다"고 말했다.

일리노이 EPA 에너지부는 에너지 효율성, 회복력 및 청정 에너지 기술에 초점을 맞춘 주 전역의 프로젝트에 에너지부 「인프라 투자 및 고용법」 자금을 투자하고 있으며, 특히 환경 정의 관련 분야에 집중하고 있다.

또한 일리노이 EPA는 스마트 에너지 디자인 지원 센터(SEDAC), 일리노이 지속 가능 기술 센터(ISTC)와 협력해 지자체가 SEDAC 및 ISTC의 무료 에너지 사용 평가를 통해 에너지를 절약하고 공공 수도 및 하수 처리 공급 비용을 절감할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다.

Illinois EPA Office of Energy Releases 1st Round Funding for Energy Efficiency Upgrades at Public Water Supply Treatment Plants

 

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has announced $750,000 of grant funding available for the development and completion of energy efficiency projects at public water supply (PWS) facilities, commonly referred to as drinking water treatment plants (DWTP).

The grant program seeks to invest U.S. Department of Energy Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funds in publicly owned PWS in the State of Illinois. The grants will enable units of local government to make energy efficiency upgrades to water equipment identified by previous energy audits, in some cases from audits provided at no-cost by the Illinois EPA Office of Energy. The funded projects will reduce the amount of energy consumed by water treatment operations, thereby reducing energy costs. Grant applications will undergo a comprehensive, merit-based review. Scoring factors will include cost effectiveness, energy cost impact savings, energy rate, and projects located in environmental justice areas of concern. Application materials are available on the Illinois EPA website. The application period closes at 5:00 pm on February 2, 2024.

"Illinois EPA has been fortunate to provide similar energy efficiency grants to wastewater treatment facilities in Illinois, and we are excited to able to expand funding to public water supply treatment facilities," said Illinois EPA Director John J. Kim. "We look forward to investing in energy efficiency upgrades at systems that provide clean, dependable drinking water to Illinois residents."

The Illinois EPA Office of Energy is investing Department of Energy IIJA funds in projects across the State that focus on energy efficiency, resiliency, and clean energy technologies specifically in areas of environmental justice concern. In addition, Illinois EPA works with the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) to help municipalities save energy and reduce the cost of supplying public water and wastewater treatment through no-cost energy usage assessments from SEDAC and ISTC.
