아가디르·다클라 지역 2곳의 유기성 폐기물 처리 시설서 연간 11만6천톤 처리

과일, 채소 및 양식 분야에서 세계적인 선두 기업 중 하나인 아즈라 그룹(AZURA Group)과 상수도 및 순환 폐기물 솔루션 분야의 글로벌 선두 기업인 수에즈(SUEZ)는 아프리카 모르코 아가디르(Agadir) 및 다클라(Dakhla) 지역에 위치한 아즈라의 농산물 가공시설에서 배출되는 유기성 폐기물 전용 퇴비화 시설 2곳을 운영하기 위한 계약에 서명했다고 1월 10일 발표했다.

수에즈는 이번 계약을 통해 유기성 폐기물을 퇴비로 전환하기 위한 두 곳의 퇴비화 시설을 운영하기 위해 각각 6년 동안 진행된다. 연간 11만6천 톤의 유기성 폐기물을 처리할 수 있는 이 처리시설은 연간 4만2천 톤의 퇴비와 4만3천 톤의 반제품 폐기물 고형연료(Refuse Derived Fuel, RDF)를 생산하게 된다.

이 솔루션은 아즈라그룹과 수에즈가 강력한 의지를 보인 순환경제와 자원 보존 문제를 해결하는 것을 목표로 한다. 농작물의 수분 부족(water stress) 상황에서 퇴비는 유기적인 개량제로서 수분 보유력을 높이고 토양의 질을 개선하기 위한 귀중한 대안이다.

또한 탄소를 토양에 재통합하여 기후 문제에 대응할 수 있다. 생산된 퇴비는 현지 파트너를 통해 해당 지역의 농업 생산자에게 판매되어 지역 경제에 가치를 창출할 수 있다. 이번 협력은 2020년 유기성 폐기물 관리 및 재순환을 위해 시작된 아즈라그룹과 수에즈 간의 강력한 파트너십의 정점이다.

아주라그룹(AZURA group)의 히참 하라캇(Hicham Harakat) 최고경영자(CEO)는 “지속가능성과 책임은 아주라그룹의 모든 활동의 핵심이다”라면서 “수에즈와의 새로운 파트너십은 온실가스 배출을 줄이겠다는 우리의 강력한 약속을 다시 한번 보여주는 것이며, 이는 ‘과학 기반 이니셔티브(science-based initiative, SBTI)’와의 협약에 서명함으로써 현저하게 공식화되었다”라고 말했다.

히참 하라캇 CEO는 특히 “실제로, 유기성 폐기물에 대한 퇴비화 시설의 구현 덕분에 우리는 매년 약 1만6천 톤의 이산화탄소 배출량을 줄일 수 있을 것”이라고 선언했다.

The AZURA Group signs a new contract with SUEZ to recycle its organic waste in the south of Morocco

 

The AZURA group, one of the world leading companies in the fields of fruits, vegetables and aquaculture, and SUEZ, a leader in circular waste solutions, announce the signature of contracts to operate two composting platforms dedicated to organic waste emanating from Azura’s operations that are located in Agadir and Dakhla regions.

The two contracts, with a duration of six years each, for the implementation of two platforms to transform organic waste into compost.

 With an overall capacity of 116,000 tons of organic waste per year, these platforms will produce 42,000 tons of compost and 43,000 tons of semi-finished Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) annually.

This solution aims to address circular economy and resource preservation challenges to which the Azura Group and SUEZ have shown strong commitment. In the context of water stress, compost as an organic amendment, represents a valuable alternative to increase water retention and improve soil quality. 

It also responds to climate challenges by reintegrating carbon into the soil. Furthermore, the compost produced will be sold by a local partner to agricultural producers in the region, creating value to the local economy.

This collaboration is the culmination of a strong partnership between the Azura Group and SUEZ, which began in 2020 with the contract for the management and re-circularization of waste from the Azura Group's activities.
