전 세계 시멘트 생산량의 50% 이상을 차지하는 중국 시멘트협회(China Cement Association, CCA)는 2월 1일 국제 시멘트·콘크리트 협회(Global Cement and Concrete Association, GCCA)와 저탄소 미래를 위한 파트너십을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이번 파트너십 체결은 지속 가능성과 시멘트·콘크리트 산업의 저탄소 개발을 목표로 하고 있다.

콘크리트는 물과 시멘트 다음으로 지구상에서 가장 많이 사용되는 재료이며, 시멘트는 콘크리트의 핵심 결합재로 전 세계 이산화탄소 배출량의 약 7%를 차지한다.

이번 파트너십은 중국 시멘트 탄소 중립 로드맵(China Cement Neutrality Roadmap)을 발전시킬 것으로 기대되며, 올해 말 출시될 예정이다. 이 로드맵은 중국 시멘트 산업을 완전히 탈탄소화하기 위한 방법을 제시하고 있다. 

특히, 2021년 글로벌 넷제로(Net Zero) 로드맵을 시작한 GCCA는 세계 최대 시멘트 기술 및 장비 회사인 시노마 인터내셔널 엔지니어링(Sinoma International Engineering Co Ltd)과 유럽 시멘트 연구소(European Cement Research Academy, ECRA)와 함께 개발을 지원할 계획이다.

콩 시앙종(Kong Xiangzhong) CCA 회장은 이날 중국 베이징(Beijing)에서 열린 서명식에서 "윈-윈(Win-win) 전략으로서 이 파트너십은 탈탄소화 임무를 위한 전문지식 및 기술 노하우 등을 통해 효과적으로 협력할 수 있는 방법을 제시한다"며 "이를 통해 보다 지속 가능한 세상을 만들 수 있을 것"이라고 말했다.

토마스 길로(Thomas Guillot) GCCA 최고경영자(CEO)는 "시멘트와 콘크리트는 미래의 지속 가능한 세상의 필수 요소인 핵심 인프라, 회복 가능한 지역사회, 깨끗한 물, 안전한 환경 및 청정 에너지 전환을 가능케 할 것"이라며 "현 시대의 핵심 이슈인 기후 변화를 해결하기 위해서는 리더십과 협력이 필요한 만큼 이번 파트너십은 필수 탈탄소 건축 자재를 공급할 준비가 돼 있음을 세계에 알리는 신호"라고 밝혔다.

길로 최고경영자는 이어 "중국의 새로운 파트너와 협력하는 것은 넷제로를 위한 우리의 노력을 의미한다"며 "우리의 행동은 앞으로 세계적인 임무가 될 것"이라고 강조했다.

한편, 이 파트너십은 공식적으로 향후 3년간 지속되며, 더 넓은 교류와 소통을 위한 플랫폼을 제공할 예정이다.

China and Global Cement Agreement on Low Carbon Future

Milestone partnership launched to deliver sustainability of world’s essential material

 

BEIJING--The two leading representative bodies of the global cement industry have signed a milestone agreement to help accelerate decarbonisation of the sector across the world. China Cement Association (CCA), which represents more than 50% of the world’s cement production and the Global Cement and Concrete Association, whose members account for 80% of cement production capacity outside of China, have signed a historic partnership pledge.

The pledge includes an agreement to work together on sustainability, and the low-carbon development of the cement and concrete industry. Concrete is the world’s most used material on earth after water and cement is the key binding in concrete, and which accounts for around 7% of global CO2 emissions.

The historic agreement will also see the development, and launch later this year, of a whole value chain China Cement Carbon Neutrality Roadmap which will set out a commitment and pathway to fully decarbonise the cement industry in China. The GCCA, having launched a global net zero roadmap in 2021, will assist with its development alongside Sinoma International Engineering Co Ltd (Sinoma), the world’s largest cement technology and equipment company, and the European Cement Research Academy (ECRA) who will also provide technical input.

Launching the agreement at a signing ceremony in Beijing, Mr. Kong Xiangzhong, Executive President of CCA said: “This important agreement marks a win-win cooperation, and shows where we can collaborate effectively to bring insights, technical know-how and greater focus to our shared decarbonisation mission. I am sure this will create a mutually beneficial and long-term partnership that will be crucial in building a more sustainable world.”

Thomas Guillot, GCCA CEO said: “The world needs leadership and collaboration like never before, especially on addressing the key issue of our time, climate change. This agreement between the China industry and the global industry is a signal to the world that we stand ready to deliver the essential decarbonised building materials that our planet needs. The agreement formally covers the next three years of co-operation and provides a platform for wider communication and exchange.
