선도적인 환경 설계-시공업체인 PC건설(PC Construction)과 글로벌 컨설팅 및 엔지니어링 회사인 스탠텍(Stantec)은 버지니아(Virginia) 북부 알링턴 카운티(Arlington County) 소재 수질오염 관리시설(WPCP)을 위한 바이오 고형물 업그레이드 프로젝트의 설계 및 시공 업체로 선정됐다 [사진출처 = PC Construction]

 

선도적인 환경 설계-시공업체인 PC건설(PC Construction)과 글로벌 컨설팅 및 엔지니어링 회사인 스탠텍(Stantec)은 버지니아(Virginia) 북부 알링턴 카운티(Arlington County) 소재 수질오염 관리시설(WPCP)을 위한 바이오 고형물 업그레이드 프로젝트의 설계 및 시공 업체로 선정됐다. 

총 약 1억 7천500만 달러 규모의 설계-시공 프로젝트는 고형물 처리 시설을 업그레이드하고 최첨단 기술을 접목해 폐수를 재생 가능한 에너지원과 영양분이 풍부한 토양 개량제로 전환한다.   

PC와 스탠텍은 열 가수분해 공정(THP), 탈수시설, 1차 및 2차 혐기성 소화조, 악취 제어, 바이오가스 처리 시스템 및 증기 생산을 설계하고 건설하기 위해 협력할 계획이다. THP를 통해 WPCP는 비료로 사용할 수 있는 A등급의 바이오 고형물을 생산할 수 있으며 생성된 바이오 가스는 포집, 처리 및 재생 가능 에너지원으로 사용될 예정이다.

PC와 스탠텍은 현재 WSSC 워터(WSSC Water)의 피스카타웨이(Piscataway) 수자원 회수 시설 바이오 에너지 프로젝트의 시운전 단계에 있으며, 이는 미국에서 운영 중인 5개의 THP 시설 중 하나가 될 것이다.

맷 쿡(Matt Cooke) PC 건설의 사장 겸 CEO는 “THP 기술은 폐수 바이오 고형물을 관리하기 위한 효과적이고 에너지 효율적이며 지속 가능한 방법으로 미국에서 빠르게 주목받고 있다”며 “이 혁신적인 분야에 대한 PC 건설의 전문 지식을 활용해 알링턴 카운티가 장기적인 비전을 달성할 수 있도록 돕게 돼 기쁘다”고 말했다.

알링턴 카운티의 고형물 마스터 플랜을 기반으로 하는 이 프로젝트는 이 지역의 온실 가스 배출을 줄이고 에너지 사용량을 마이너스로 만드는 데 도움이 될 것이다. 완공은 2029년 말로 예상된다.

PC Construction and Stantec design-build team to lead Arlington County’s Re-Gen project

PC Construction, a leading environmental design-build contractor on the East Coast, and Stantec, its lead design partner and global consulting and engineering firm, have been selected to design and construct a major biosolids upgrade project for the Arlington County Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) in Northern Virginia. The progressive design-build project, totaling approximately $175 million, will upgrade solids handling facilities and incorporate cutting-edge technology to sustainably transform wastewater to a renewable energy source and a nutrient-rich soil amendment.

PC and Stantec will work together to design and construct the thermal hydrolysis process (THP), pre- and post-dewatering facilities, primary and secondary anaerobic digesters, odor control, biogas treatment systems and steam generation. THP will allow the WPCP to produce Class A biosolids that can be used as fertilizer and the resulting biogas will be captured, treated and used as a renewable energy source.

The design-build team is a leader in these specialized facilities, combining PC’s construction experience—including the largest THP facility in the world—with Stantec’s history of designing nearly half of the world’s THP facilities. PC and Stantec are currently in the commissioning phase for WSSC Water’s Piscataway Water Resource Recovery Facility Bioenergy Project, which will be one of only five operating THP facilities in the US.

Building on Arlington County’s Solids Master Plan, this project will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region and generate negative net energy usage. Completion is projected by the end of 2029.
