[미국] 넥스트래커, 업계 최초 ‘저탄소 태양광 추적기’ 출시

지능형 태양광 추적기(Solar Tracker) 및 소프트웨어의 글로벌 제공업체인 넥스트래커(Nextracker)는 24일(현지시각) 탄소 발자국을 최대 35% 줄인 플래그십 'NX 호라이즌(NX Horizon™)' 태양광 추적기 시스템을 출시했다고 발표했다. 

태양 에너지 분야에 중요한 이정표를 세운 NX 호라이즌 저탄소 추적기는 전기 아크로(electric arc furnace, EAF) 제조, 철강 재활용 및 프로젝트 현장 인근에 전략적으로 위치한 물류의 사용 등을 특징으로 한다.

아울러 탄소 발자국, 토지 사용, 물 소비 및 태양광 추적기의 소싱(sourcing)·제조·배송 및 운영과 관련된 기타 지표의 감소 등을 비롯한 환경적 이점에 대한 제3자 검증분석을 사용한 전과정평가(Life Cycle Assessment, LCA)를 포함한다. 

넥스트래커는 또한 NX 호라이즌 저탄소 태양광 추적기 시스템에 대한 '카본 트러스트 1(Carbon Trust 1) 제품 탄소 발자국 라벨' 인증을 획득했다. 이는 태양광 추적기의 수명 주기 전반에 걸쳐 탄소 배출 데이터 수집, 평가 및 보고 방법론에 대한 글로벌 표준을 충족했음을 입증한다.

댄 슈거(Dan Shugar) 넥스트래커의 설립자 겸 CEO는 "넥스트래커의 저탄소 트래커는 재생 가능한 철강 제조, 최적화된 물류, 신중한 원자재 공급업체 선정을 통해 태양광 발전의 탈탄소화에 있어 가시적인 결과를 제공한다"고 말했다.

넥스트래커(Nextracker)는 미국에 기반을 둔 태양광 발전 프로젝트를 위해 여러 고객으로부터 새로 출시된 NX 호라이즌 저탄소 추적기에 대한 초기 주문을 확보했다.

넥스트래커는 태양광 추적기 시스템을 위한 원자재의 업스트링 소싱 및 국내 제조를 통해 에너지 분야의 지속 가능한 공급망 솔루션을 구현하는 데 앞장서고 있다. 

EAF 공정은 강철과 전기를 재활용해 새로운 강철을 생성함으로써 철광석과 석탄에 의존하는 전통적인  BOF(Basic Oxygen Furnace) 작업에 비해 온실 가스 배출량을 크게 줄인다. 이는 환경에 미치는 영향을 최소화할 뿐만 아니라 미국 고철 공급을 활용해 미국 철강 산업의 자원 효율성과 성장을 가능하게 한다. 넥스트래커는 또한 NX 호라이즌 저탄소 제품에서 알루미늄과 같은 탄소 집약도2인 소재를 제품 중량 대비 1% 미만으로 줄였다. 

존 무어(Jon Moore) 리서치 회사 블룸버그 NEF의 최고경영자(CEO)는 "산업은 전 세계 온실가스 배출량의 20% 이상을 차지하며, 그 중 철강은 7%를 차지하고 있어 탈탄소화가 중요하다. 분석에 따르면 철강 부문은 지난해 전 세계적으로 350억 달러를 청정 능력(clean capacity)에 투자했지만 탄소중립을 달성하기 위해서는 더 많은 투자가 필요하다"고 말했다.

새로운 NX 호라이즌(NX Horizon) 저탄소 트래커 제품은 현재 이용 가능하며, 올해 말 첫 선적할 예정이다.

Third-party Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology confirms up to 35% reduced carbon footprint throughout the entire product lifecycle for Nextracker NX Horizon™ low carbon solution

Nextracker (Nasdaq: NXT), a global provider of intelligent solar tracker and software solutions, today announced the availability of its flagship NX Horizon™ solar tracker system with up to 35% lower carbon footprint. Marking a significant milestone for solar energy, the NX Horizon low carbon tracker solution culminates Nextracker’s technology leadership and robust supply chain solutions including the use of electric arc furnace (EAF) manufacturing, recycled steel, and logistics strategically located near project sites.

Initially offered in the United States, the low carbon tracker solution includes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) documentation using a third-party verified analysis of environmental benefits, including reductions in carbon footprint, land use, water consumption and other metrics associated with the sourcing, manufacturing, delivery, and operation of solar trackers. Nextracker also achieved the Carbon Trust1 Product Carbon Footprint label certification for its NX Horizon low carbon solar tracker system demonstrating it has met the global standard for carbon emission data collecting, evaluation and reporting methodology throughout the life cycle of its solar trackers.

Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) processing uses recycled steel and electricity to generate new steel, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) operations, which rely on iron ore and coal. This not only aligns with Nextracker’s commitment to minimize environmental impact but also leverages American scrap steel supply enabling resource efficiency and growth for the U.S. steel industry. Nextracker has also reduced carbon-intense2 materials such as aluminum from its NX Horizon low carbon offering to under 1% aluminum by weight in the product.

Jon Moore, CEO of research firm BloombergNEF, “Industry represents more than 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions; steel alone is 7%, making it a crucial industry to decarbonize. Based on our analysis, the steel sector invested $35 billion last year in clean capacity globally, but much more is needed to reach net-zero. Demand for green steel is an important signal to steelmakers that they need to bring new, low-carbon capacity online and accelerate their net-zero transition.”
