서호주 250만 주민에게 연간 500억리터 식수 제공…지속 가능한 물공급 보장

제이콥스(Jacobs)는 서호주 최대 규모의 물 공급업체인 워터 코퍼레이션(Water Corporation)으로부터 호주 퍼스(Perth)에 있는 알키모스(Alkimos) 해수 담수화 시설의 설계, 건설, 운영 및 유지관리 업체로 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

워커 코퍼레이션 및 악시오나(ACCIONA)와의 협력의 일환인 이 프로젝트를 통해 연간 130억 갤런(500억 리터)의 식수가 생산될 것으로 예상되며, 향후 프로젝트에 따라 최대 260억 갤런(1천억 리터)까지 확장될 수 있다.

이 해수 담수화 시설은 250만 명 이상의 서호주 주민에게 지속 가능한 물공급을 보장할 것이다.

키스 로슨(Keith Lawson) 제이콥스의 수석 부사장은 “이번 계약은 워터 코퍼레이션과의 오랜 관계를 강화해 알키모스에 중요한 상하수 프로젝트를 제공한다"며 "더 나아가 제이콥스의 글로벌 수자원 역량, 담수화 경험 및 프로젝트 수행 능력을 인정하는 것"이라고 전했다.

담수화 시설 외에도 이 프로젝트에는 2.5마일(4.1km) 길이의 해양 방류 터널과 1.6마일(2.6km) 길이의 청정 해수 취수 터널 건설이 포함된다. 두 터널 모두 직경이 약 3.45미터(11.3피트)에 달하며, 터널 시추기를 사용해 해저에 건설될 예정이다.

Jacobs to Support Design, Construction and Operations for Seawater Desalination Plant

Project to help secure water supply for 2.5 million people in Western Australia; Contract supports sustainable drinking water supply and infrastructure

 

Jacobs (NYSE: J) was selected by Water Corporation, the largest water utility in Western Australia, to design, build, operate and maintain the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant in Perth, Australia. The project, part of an alliance with Water Corporation and ACCIONA, is expected to produce 13 billion gallons (50 billion liters) of drinking water per year, scalable up to 26 billion gallons (100 billion liters) under a future project.

Part of an overall program by Water Corporation estimated at approximately $1.83 billion (AUS $2.8 billion), the plant will secure a climate-independent, sustainable water supply to more than 2.5 million Western Australians.

"This appointment strengthens our long-standing relationship with Water Corporation, delivering significant water and wastewater projects in the state," said Jacobs Senior Vice President Keith Lawson. "Furthermore, it recognizes Jacobs' global water capabilities, desalination experience and project delivery capability."

In addition to the desalination facility, the project incorporates a 2.5 mile (4.1 kilometer) offshore outfall tunnel and 1.6 mile (2.6 kilometer) clean, seawater intake tunnel. Both tunnels are approximately 11.3 feet (3.45 meters) inside diameter and will be constructed beneath the seabed using tunnel boring machines.
