Eureka's new wastewater treatment plant to serve Marcellus Shale oil and gas producers

WILLIAMSPORT, PA Feb. 19, 2013 -- Eureka Resources, LLC, has announced the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility to serve oil and gas producers involved in Marcellus Shale drilling. This will be the company¡¯s second facility in Pennsylvania and will offer the largest flowback and produced wastewater treatment capacity in the state.

The company¡¯s current Williamsport, PA, wastewater treatment plant has been operating since 2008 and has undergone multiple upgrades to expand service capabilities. That plant has the capacity to handle more than 8,000 barrels of wastewater per day. It is the only facility treating Marcellus wastewater that meets or exceeds the Pennsylvania DEP¡¯s stringent standards for POTW discharge.

According to Daniel J. Ertel, Chief Executive Officer of Eureka Resources, the new wastewater treatment plant will be located off of Route 6 in Standing Stone Township, Bradford County, near Towanda, Pa. The facility will be conveniently located for producers throughout the Marcellus Shale.

"Eureka Resources is excited to bring sophisticated process technology to the area that serves the needs of energy producers who are looking for solutions to clean and reuse wastewater as an alternative to deep well injection," said George Banashefski, Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Banashefski says that, when complete, the 40,000 square foot Bradford County plant will have the capacity to pretreat 10,000 barrels of wastewater per day from oil and gas production.

Ertel says the new plant will employ patented distillation technology that will combine with a concentrated brine crystallizer that is the first of its kind in the industry. The technology will allow the extraction of salt by-products that can be reused in other applications. The plant will have the capacity to recycle up to 5,000 barrels of wastewater per day using the crystallization process.

The facility will be built on a 22 acre parcel of land owned by Eureka Resources. The site has been fully permitted for construction, and it is scheduled to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2013.
Eureka anticipates employment during the construction process to be approximately 30 employees. The facility will be built in phases, with the first phase scheduled to be completed by August 2013 and the final phase by October 2013. When fully operational the plant will employ approximately 20 full-time employees.
