미국에서 가장 큰 참호 없는(trenchless) 물 인프라 솔루션 제공업체인 Inland Pipe Rehabilitation(IPR)사는 북(北) 댈러스 근교 하수처리 시설을 지원하는 1600 피트 이상의 수로를 CIPP(Cured-In-Place Pipe)기술을 통해 새롭게 설치하였다고 발표하였다. IPR사는 Dow사의 custom formulate resins를 이용한 RS Technik사의 압력 파이프 설치 시스템을 활용하였다고 전했다.

IPR사는 새로운 NSF 인증 기술에 일년 전부터 투자하였고 그 이후로 직원 교육, 적정 승인 채널 확보, 시범 운영, 예행 프로젝트 수주 등을 병행해왔다. "전체적으로 우리는 지금까지 새로운 설치 시스템을 위해 노력해온 우리의 노력에 만족한다."라고 Joe Cutillo, IPR사 회장 겸 CEO는 전했다. "문제가 발생한 저류지의 평균 수명은 약 45년이지만 약 25%의 저류지는 수명이 50년을 넘는 것으로 조사되었다. 대부분의 배관 시스템이 50년의 수명을 고려하며 제작되었기 때문에 가까운 미래에 적절한 배관 시스템 운영의 실패율이 증가할 것으로 예상된다."라고 그는 덧붙였다.

Inland Pipe Rehabilitation (IPR), the nation’s largest privately owned trenchless infrastructure solutions provider, recently installed cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) to renew more than 1,600 feet of water lines serving a North Dallas suburb water treatment plant. IPR installed its pressure pipe renewal system provided by RS Technik using Dow custom formulated resins.

IPR invested in the new NSF certified technology a year ago and since that time has been training its crew, going through proper approval channels, conducting demonstrations and securing pilot projects. “Overall, we are pleased with the progress we’ve made with our new installation system,” explained Joe Cutillo, president and CEO of IPR. “The average age of a broken water main is roughly 45 years and it’s estimated that nearly 25 percent of all water mains are older than 50 years. Since most piping systems were only designed for a 50-year lifespan, the frequency of failures is going to increase significantly in the very near future,” he added.

Until recently, conventional dig and replace was the only sure way to repair a damaged or broken water main. However with the development of the RS Technik System, combined with the CIPP installation experience of IPR, water mains can now be relined and leaks can be repaired, before a line completely ruptures. “This represents a significant cost savings to cities and towns across the country,” said Mike Vellano, vice president, sales and marketing for IPR. “Our new system is extremely sophisticated, structurally restores the existing pipe and safe for the environment.”

In addition to industry approval, this fully structural solution is designed to sustain long-term internal pressures and external loads of the existing pipeline. Unlike traditional CIPP, the

RS Technik process includes a computer controlled, mobile wet-out and mixing unit. This results in a faster response and consistent higher quality, with professional installation.

Now that IPR’s water main rehabilitation system is available, water districts have begun to take notice and are more seriously looking at relining their CIPP water and transmission mains as a cure to their problems. “CIPP relining has been around for a long time, and has proven itself as a cost-effective and non-disruptive way to rehabilitate sewers,” stated Jim Rorison, IPR chief operating officer. “We knew it was only a matter of time when the process migrated into the drinking water market. And when it did, we wanted to be a part of that, but not before we know we had the right system to conduct a permanent and safe repair.”

The response has to the new system has be very positive and backlog is increasing. “We have several major projects coming up later this spring and summer,” added Rorison.
